meeting at Bala lake sounds cool Hubcap. the main carpark where it says Bala Adventure and Watersports is easy to get to, it just depends what time you want to meet there on saturday morning? Sear, where will you be travelling from? we might be able to meet en-route to the lake somwhere and stop for some breakfast then the final question, is where do we want to end up on saturday night? any thoughts?

Well were normally up at sparrow fart while camping, though it's about 20 miles from the camping spot to Bala lake, so maybe around dinner time. There's a place for a rather large fire and usually plenty of wood too, little stream for water if you're so inclined. Space for about 4 tents comfortably and the farmer doesn't mind as long as people don't leave rubbish.
It's called bullet mountain, there's a reason for that so don't start a fire where there hasn't been one already! lol.

Sounds cool, Im thinking of heading out from birmingham really early and getting to rhayader and riding round the lakes and then heading north from there, could meet up somewhere round there for breakfast?
as for the saturday, Im happy with any where, remoteness and elevation/good views are always positive!

Ah yeah, just read the post on the previous page, Criccieth would be great, definately one of the top places on my list! As for cooking, Im going to try and get a small stove type thing and I'll just do lots of cous cous and stuff probably, cheap and small and light, small camp fires where possible is ideal though. and the odd bit of fish if I can manage to pack some rods on the bike and if i can catch any thing. Ill be able to bring reels easily, and if anyone else wants to fish what might be easier is to get a cheap collapsible rod like this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10FT-3m-CORK-HANDLED-PIONEER-TELESCOPIC-FISHING-ROD-COURSE-RIVER-LAKE-SEA-/271030593321?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Fishing_FishingRods_EH&hash=item3f1aaea729#ht_811wt_1111##that would probably be easier, its tricky packing 6ft lengths of wood on a bike! And yeah Lee i'd be up for meeting you in Rhayader around 9 maybe for a bacon butty. I can see a tea room called the old swan that looks nice.

ok, so rhayader sat morning at 9am - lee + sear. 11-1200 bala lake to meet norfolk + hubcap. then onwards to wherever we want to go, and camp for the night. sunday is probably the best day to do criccieth and anywhere else we fancy before camping on sunday night. then it's up to us what time we want to go our seperate ways on monday. that sound ok as a starting point for everyone? i'll drop a PM to everyone with my mobile number on for meeting up purposes

righto, bags are packed and ready to sling on the bike. list so far is: clothing wash gear tent sleeping bag roll mat pillow (no slumming it here!) trangia and fuel torch tea/coffee/sugar KFS mug fishing rod, reel, tackle (need to sort rod licence - Dan, are we still planning on fishing?) lots of spare bungees etc cable ties first aid kit spare fuses etc on board tool kit litre of oil and water (just in case) Sat Nav, charger etc mobile phone. i'm thinking about a spare clutch cable, and a pair of spare levers - thoughts? anything else anyone can think of? so far it fits nicely in my soft panniers, a tankbag and a waterproof duffle bag, so not too bad. getting really excited now

i'm thinking about a spare clutch cable, and a pair of spare levers - thoughts? anything else anyone can think of? On the Beaulieu-trip I did bring spare clutch & throttle cables. Since quite recently I've also got a spare set of lever, which I will take on my next long distance trip (I'm going to Winterberg in Germany for a few days at the end of Sept. ;D) As for stuff: RJ made a quite extensive list not long ago: www.ntvhonda.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=camping&action=display&thread=2785&page=1GvS

Lee, we could have a stab at some fishing if we have time and are somewhere suitable, but Im not a particularly great fisherman and don't have much tackle yet, we could definately give it a go, but don't invest too much money or time into the thought! I have a telescopic rod that I can carry on the bike, a reel, some line, hooks, a weight and bread is as good a bait as any if you can keep it on the hook so we might just be able to catch some fish, but I doubt we'll get anything big enough for eating!

There's a couple of places you can go, there's Bala Lake itself, but theres a rather deep pond a little way away from the camping area, not sure if anything lives in there like, don't do fishing myself. lol!!!
Groovylee, you may not need a spare clutch cable, but I'd opt for spare levers if I were you, you never do know when your arse end may slip on gravel. Don't forget to bring a side stand plate, it's not always easy to find a rock in a decent place for parking the bike, lol!!!
