24/11/11 - Well, I have been given a new project for the winter - a 1988 Honda NTV 600 Revere in white. At the moment she has no battery or fuel pump. The battery is because she has been stood for about 2 years, and the fuel pump is the reason why it has been stood for so long. she also has a flat front tyre. I have got a battery and pump on order, so the plan is to get her running, and sort out any issues there, then start stripping her down to clean/paint/powdercoat etc as necessary. Hopefully by the end of the spring I should have her back to something like her former glory, and I will hopefully have finished my DAS, and will be able to hop on the finished article, and go for a spin I will update as I go, but the likelihood is that this will be a fairly slow process due to long work hours, and the cold weather coming. Anyway, here are some picture as she stands at the moment. any advice/hints/tips will be more than welcome.

27/11/11 - The fuel pump arrived, and the battery has charged, so i put it all back together, and voila! she's a runner!
I also changed the tyre valve for the front tyre, as i found that the current one had split, hence why it was flat, and that looks pretty good, but the rear tyre has seen better days i think. It has one repair already, and there is a screw in another part Oh well, i'll bang a new tyre on before the MOT
Next up is a full fluid change and service, then some cosmetic tarting up over winter. more pics to follow soon
cheers for reading,
Lee

well, i finished the lighting and plumbing jobs at my friends house by 3pm, and then got cracking with the revere. the collector and silencer are relatively sound, but the area where the front downpipe enters the collector is a bit ropey, but not beyond saving. the rest of it will be a clean up and paint with HT black on the collector, and a polish up on the chrome bits. the rear down pipe is fine, but needs a clean up. the fron however, is a different story. the collar that clamps the downpipe to the head has all but rusted away to nothing. can you buy these seperately?? or i suppose i could see a fabrication company to get one made up? the rear wheel is off, the rear 'arch' is off, and the rear lights have been removed. it is quite nice to work on a bike, as i have been a car nut my entire life, everything is so much more accessible...... so, the plan so far is to strip back the frame as much as i can without too much hassle, clean and paint it. then clean, prep and paint the panels. not too sure on colour yet. the frame will remain silver, the wheels will stay the same colour i think. all of the chrome will stay. and the bodywork, well, i'm torn between gloss black, matt black, and gunmetal grey. any opinions are welcome anyway, enough talk, here come the pics [glow=red,2,300]and as she stands right now......[/glow]

ok, small update to the project, last night i drove to cambridge to collect 3 boxes full of spares from 2 broken NTVs. things i managed to spot whilst rummaging when i got home were:
2 sets of stainless downpipes set of handlebars 2 sets of peg hangers headlamp unit (ropey) rear light unit (perfect) full wiring loom rear shock (but not like mine, will post pics up for help later) rear wheel with polished rim 2 full sets of indicators 2 pairs of calipers in various states of disassembly 2 random calipers that may or may not fit?? main seat area plastic bodywork front mudguard with extender attached (needs cleaning up a bit) another extender rear brake disc, rusty, but loads of meat left and loads of other bits.
all for the princely sum of £50. not too bad i think.
more pics in a few days when i finish shifts.

I've actually been thinking about painting my bike white all for the princely sum of £50. not too bad i think. No, certainly not too bad. Nice pic's GvS

I used to have great fun on a white bike. Yellow jacket and white lid.
Surprising how many people thought I was a police officer. Lots of fun.
It also makes you very visible. I would not rush to the paint can, but work on her mechanics first.
I do like red if I was going to suggest a change, but as I say no rush. You could always practice with so white on the said panel for now, which would be a short term improvement.
Agree with GvS your £50 box was a great find, and well worth keeping. Feel free to add to the for sale section any spare you have.
I like silver wheels, mine are like yours. But a pic of your "rear wheel with polished rim" would be interesting.
I would suggest you keep your "rear light unit (perfect)" as these are very easy to break if you reverse your bike to walls, as this is the first point of impact. £15-£20 + postage would be reasonable if you do think of selling.

thanks for the info and opinions gents now you mention it roger, the rear panel i have is red, and i like the look of your bike, so may go down that route. but as you said, the mechanicals need to be sorted first, and i don't want to get painting till it warms up anyway, so that is last on the list (except the frame, and centre stand etc) once i get the wheel clean i will post up a pic. annoyingly only one side of the rim is polished, but if it looks ok when cleaned, i may do the other side, and the front wheel..... any spares that are available after i have finished the rebuild will be going up for sale on here, nice and cheap to those that need them, i'm not trying to make money, just get a nice sorted bike should get a pass from the wife to spend some more time on the revere wednesday, so will post some more pics then. well, after a long break from the garage, i finally got a little bit more done this afternoon. i managed to get hold of a radiator from a bros 400, and a few other little bits, so i got to tidying these up. this is the original radiator - a little out of shape, but still sound. the new radiator, painted silver, with the bros 400 stoneguard (i actually prefer this one to the plastic 'slatted' one on the revere) now this is ready to fit when the bike is finished.

Looking very good - really like the radiator. I'm making a new radiator cover soon - got all the bits, just need to do some cutting at the weekend. Will try to post pics at some point (when I do it!)....
