Hi everyone,
I am still new here (2nd post) and have bought a 1995 NTV650S to work on and hopefully ride if it ever gets put back together.
The price was fairly cheap but should have been cheaper considering the problems I have found. I feel a bit cheated by the chap who sold it to me, he has owned it since 2001 and said its been standing for a long time but runs ok. I think it has been rebuilt (badly) after a crash, and since then had a cooling issue/leak and does not 'run ok'. It had virtually no water in (only some in the res tank), and has a bit of gear whine in first.
In the excitement of getting my hands on another bike (my last bike, a Yam RD350, was stolen a few years ago) I ignored the advice going around in my head to walk away from the purchase, silly me....
The rolling chassis seems in fairly good nick with virtually no rust, newish tires, newish exhaust, new front disk, usable rear disk, usable rear shock, forks will need seals but no pitting. Hopefully just a good clean up and the fork seals/rear susp bush and its ready to go.
I need to decide if I am going to rebuild the engine it came with, or replace it as a whole unit, I am happy to strip it down myself and know a good engineer that can do any head/bore work.
If it ever gets sorted I have a good artist friend who has access to a car spray booth, so it can be given a funky custom paint job.
I have been putting up my progress so far on my website here: www.mjleonard.me.uk/category/projects/ntv650s/
The bike as I got it:
I guess I need to some advice with some crucial parts:
If I rebuild I'm going to be looking for a water pump (the inside is rusty as hell, is this normal, it does work?).
If I am going to replace then I need to source a new engine.
I think I'm going to have to replace the radiator too (its water tight but pretty knackard)
Thanks for looking, and sorry if this post has come across as more of a rant, its good to get it out ;D
