Hurrah!
McF and the General are pleased to announce the arrival of their new Pan. A bouncing 300Kg (dry) mother and bank balance are doing fine.
Not that you would notice much difference!
Same registration letter, same model, with ABS/CBS/TCS
It's even the same colour - Black
From previous model, to wreck and then new one

Main visible differences are lack of reflective stripes, different screen and silencers (Stainless on the old one)
I bought her near Wakefield and rode her back, all went well.
She has only done 52,000 miles but seems to have spent a lot of that outside and possibly near the sea from the state of some corrosion that's set in. Nothing fatal and all easy enough to sort out.
She has already had her first taste of McF treatment and is looking much better.
Rear disk seems to be binding and not providing full efficiency, so I'm in the middle of servicing the caliper.
More worrying (and possibly expensive!) was that on getting home I realised the ABS/TCS lights weren't coming on with the ignition. So while I was giving her the deep clean, I removed the screen etc for access to the instrument panel and found a curious bank of three empty holes
Then I found the "missing" bulbs tucked out of sight
Once I'd figured out which went where in the instrument panel, I switched the ignition back on a was not surprised to see them showing faults in the ABS/TCS system. I have the Honda Workshop manual and followed the diagnostics to discover the code points to a faulty rear wheel speed sensor. At least that makes sense and should be a common problem to ABS and TCS.
So - a warning to anyone buying a car or bike with ABS fitted - check the warning lights come on with the ignition and then go off. Absence of a warning light probably means a fault and the owner is trying to hide it.
The guy I bought her from had only owned her since mid Sep. He'd been surprised with size and weight and realised it was too much for him so he was back to "Bandit" country. The bike was MOT'd in Aug so I'm guessing the lights were hidden for the test and the previous owner will not have realised there was a problem.
For other Pan owners on this forum, I'll take some photos later of the swinging arm. I didn't realise there was a problem with this until it was time to select a new one. The previous owner of my old bike had increased the length of the rear mudguard to overlap the swinging arm which keeps all of the crap off it. My new one is sound but shows bad surface rust. It's coming off this winter for powder coating and the mudguard improved
