That's very unusual No access to a bike with screwed in mirrors, but from memory, I always thought the mirrors were screwed in so that they did not come loose against the pressure of the wind
Yours look as they they are universal and the mirror itself will fit either side, so the "extension bolt" is really an adaptor so that the mirror will fit in the left side?

As i remember when i needed a new mirror for aunty the guy selling it needed to know what bike due to the thread pattern.
Plus although i thought it was like an adaptor, it also seemed to have a locking purpose, like McF says and it also helped you to adjust exactly where the mirror sits and its angle on the bike.

Actually....Honda has the same threads as most bikes, I believe only yamaha has a difference... (I think it's yamaha....could be kawa or something) Normally the threads on both side are the same.....on for yamaha (or wichever it was) the thread is diffent on the left from the right.... If the mirrors were made for that brand....it needs an adapter to make them fit on 'normal' threads from honda...

He has recently bought it to return to biking (despite my advice to buy an aNTy) and is currently bearing up with a broken leg (surgically to correct a bowed leg) While I was there he asked me to fit his new mirrors. I started with the left side and checked that the mirror had a left hand thread. I tried and struggled and could not manage. Tried the right side and it went straight in. Went back to the left and continued to struggle until eventually I removed the right side and tried that - straight in! Yamaha XT500s (they are the standard clamps) have right hand threads on both sides. So he has to go back to Wemoto and swap one mirror. Equally ironically, linked to Hubcap's new bike . His thumper has 6V electrics. I started her up and gave a quick spin (after dark) and gave up - I have brighter lights on my pedal bike

I've done it ! I made some special brackets and re-fitted my mirrors a bit wider: I made 2 small brackets out of L-shaped steel & drilled holes in them (D = 10,5 mm). Then I had to find suitable nuts & bolt. This proved to be my biggest problem. The thread-size is M10 metric- fine (M10 x 1,25 mm). I eventually found some at: www.fabory.com/This what it looks like when fitted on the bike: Due to the snow outside, I took these photo's in my garage. Because I don't want you all to know the amount of mess in my garage, I whitened out the background. I haven't taken the bike out yet (still too much of the white stuff outside). But it looks like it's a major improvement. Even though each mirror has moved out only about an inch or so. GvS
