I find the my Rear Shock as no return damping or very little it mite be the damping is set wrong or its past its sell by date. The bike is NTV 600 K, wot is the best way to sort this out I will be watching E-Bay for a good 2nd hand one, then this one repaired,or the most costly a new one. 2 Is there a big prob geting the old one off.

John ;D Hi John, hope you're bearing up well and further on the road to recovery. RJ2Para struggled a lot with his rear shocker and was convinced it had failed. I lent him mine while he got his fixed, but before removing his own, he tweaked the settings on his own and cured the problem! Try reading through this thread, my first post is perhaps the most interesting. This link is interesting if you want to see how shock absorbers work. www.shockabsorber.co.uk/bounceometer/shock.htmlThe rear shockers for 600 and 650 are compatible, but I don't think we ever got to the bottom of what else will fit. Used ones are expensive (probably £80 plus) and you do not know what condition they are in. New ones are, well, don't even think about it Are you riding your bike at present? If not, I would suggest not buying one, if your existing one is repairable, remove and have repaired before you get back on the road. If you are able to get out on aNTy, I might be able to lend you my serviceable rear shocker. Removing the shocker from the frame is a straightforward job (basically a bolt top and bottom, plus another small bolt to remove for the adjuster mounting) Like most jobs on aNTy, it can be fiddley and will involve removal of the seat, tank, side panels etc. If you have a centre stand, use this, if not, you might have a little longer struggle.

I have now a good look at it
The pre-load is set as soft as it will go
The small screw at bottom { there is not a plate round the screw like in the manual } of shock is turned far clock wise as it will go When you turn the screw anty clock wise the screw just go's slack
it looks ok i have done a lot of miles with it like this but it go's for a MOT in a few weeks its just that the shocker comes back to the top of its travel or is this whot the shocker do'es on this bike i have got 6 weeks to its MOT so no panic yet
john
I have a center stand so there will not be much of a prob geting it off

Mcf is right. Slow down before you bin your shock would be my advise. I have over 90,000 miles on my rear shock. (1989 Revere 600k) All my settings were to the max and the back end was like a rock. Bounced round all the bends. Non technical and I will count on McF to translate but. 1. Twist the big knob to the mid setting 2. Use a scres driver and do the same with the Screw adjustor Then pump up your tyres correctly (the old girl handles bad with soft tyres) Mine is all sorted now No more adjustment needed; just twist and grin. Yet to get my knee down but it is said to be possible. If you are still having problems this weekend I will get my camera out for some close up shots of my settings if you like. good luck. Roger

That's an excellent piece of info and good recommendation. Only one thing better than a satisified customer - a lot of them!
Glad you have your back end tightened up now

The standard shock can be service. We charge £89 + vat for a service at work. But probably 60% of the shocks of this kind of age that have lost there damping is due to the chrome lifting/pitting on the shaft and getting this rechromed costs about £70. Will perform better than new, if the preload adjsuter ahs failed there is nothing we can do as we have ever been able to source the orings! For more info go to www.mctsuspension.co.uksorry for the plug but it is often better than replacing as at least you knowits 100%!

Thanks for catching that ilegalalien. Good idea from Outlaw, but also good to know it will not fit. I was caught the same way trying a Deauville shock. They DO NOT fit either .
