I use Halfords Semi as well. I always check her before a long run. Not big on the mechanics. Then again she does not need much, which is good Quality bike.

I am a big fan of HG (as anyone regularly reading my posts know ;D) I have just (3 weeks, but approx 1,200 miles) changed my oil and filter, and this time changed to HG Semi Synth (and one of their magnetic oil filters (a normal oil filter but with a magnet in to trap the very fine metal particles that might pass through the filter). The semi synth was £13.99, the fully synth was £23.99. I asked what I was getting for the extra £10 (I am a Yarksheermun). I normally use fully synth, but the spec for the Mighty Pan just says "10W/40". Answer - if the bike spec doesn't require fully synth - you get nothing much. They added that reverting to semi synth might make my gearbox less cluncky (not that I'd ever mentioned if felt a bit heavy). So, 1,200 miles later, perhaps I'm expecting to feel a difference, but the gear change does feel lighter, especially into first, and also when changing to neutral eg at lights. The mighty Pan takes the best part of 4litres in an oil and filter change.

Last time I changed my oil (June this year) I used Castrol Power RS 4T 10W40. 4 liters of this stuff cost me € 44,55. Which means that either the shop where I buy it is too expensive, or the oil is a too high grade or I'll have to buy over on your side of the channel next time. For those of you who have never changed oil: check out this site: www.stoeretassen.nl/My_NTV650/Olie_verversen/Oil_change.htmGvS

Just get any 4 stroke engine oil from a 'proper' brand. 10w40 is normal, and should be well in the NTV. Just make sure it's motorcycle oil and not general/car oil. (the oil in the NTV also works for the gearbox and clutch....cars have this separated usually) I put castol my NTV (as I can get it around the corner) and ELF in the Strom (as that's what it came with...and the dealer there doesn't sell castrol....eventhough it's the same chain of bike stores from the one around the corner ) Small tip on getting the oilfilter to come off: (I might have some yorkshire man in me) Get an old/used cable/hose clamp....the ones with a screw to tighten them. Put around filter, tighten, use light tapping on the screwdriver to rotate oilfilter....voila, oil-filter-remove-tool for less then a quid I mean these things: And if very very stuck...forget the clamp and just slam the screw driver though the filter....but make absolutely sure you know you won't hit any parts of the bike! (had to do this once on my previous car....if was fused solid) Also: tighten the new filter by hand, I have never had problems with them after that. They will become more stuck with wear.... (The fused one was put on by a mechanic...)
