Finally plucked up the courage to repaint bike
(In reality got sick of looking at the GREEN
paint colour!!)
So far happy with outcome.
Gone from green nightmare to black beauty
....sort of.
Just in case it helps anyone else. plastic panels can be painted.
halfords car paint is what I used.
How did I do it?
degrease if necessary then,
1) *Wet n dry 400 to sand down panel.
2) *Grey primer (spray) to fill in and find faults.
3) *Wet n dry 800 to sand down panel.
4) *Applied spray paint. ( I chose Black satin )
(should of been gloss black, I thought afterwards)
Apply coat 2/3 after 15 mins etc until satisfied with
depth and quality of colour.
Then when it all looks shiny and lovely.............
5) *Apply Wet n dry 1200 to sand down panel.
WTF
I KNOW, but it WILL make the dull mess shiny....
6) *Spray on clear lacquer
7) *apply 2nd coat after 15 mins, repeated
application until satisfied by lustre of shine.
N.B. Allow to dry BEFORE rubbing down any runs.
Allow to dry until at least touch dry, or 24 hours
if possible.
THEN................
Refit to bike.
stand back and admire
send of reg doc stating change of colour.
PLUS
Remember NEW colour when looking for bike
in large bike parks!
As I said, so far very happy, I also polished up horn
chrome outer and painted rusted horn center black
as well.
From a distance bike looks like new ( well newer!!)!
Horn totally revitalizes front of bike. Makes it Looks crisp
and fresh from the front
(Honestly did look sad and rusty before )
So a very productive day.
paint work NOT as high as Honda factory paint standard but IMHO better than the paint work on my 10 year old panels!
Cheers
P.S. remember to smile and be nice to car drivers....
Remember, the poor B*****d's in their cars have to spend
MEGA bucks to get the thrill of acceleration
we get from every traffic light...lol
