Hello,
I am the proud owner of a NTV650 (1995) and until now have had no problems with the bike. Only lately I had the idea that the running temperature is a bit high. There have been a couple of quite warm days in the Netherlands (25-29°C) in the last weeks and I realized that the running temperature is at 80-90% of the white part of my indicator regularly. I checked collant levels, they are fine and the coolant is hot after driving. I also checked the radioator and it is nice and cool just after stopping. The only thing I cannot really feel/see is if my fan is running properly. Do you think I have to go investigate this further or am I just being paranoid and the temperature is really quite ok still?
Thanks a lot for your input.

Yup, thats perfectly normal. it'll run near the top on hot days and in traffic and near the bottom in cold weather. To test the fan leave the bike running and it should kick in just before the red.

Ok, that's a relief. By the way I made a mistake in the first post, meant to say that the tubing coming out of the radiator is significantly cooler than the input tube, not that the radiator is cool itself. Never saw the fan run though, that's why I was worried. Thank you for your help.

In the 10 (!) years that I owned a NTV650, I think I only heard the fan come on twice ! You can check that it runs by taking the electrical connector off the radiator (on the left hand side) and then connect the wire to earth (it is a 'ground-connection'). Don't forget to turn on the ignition. The fan motor should run then.

Thanks a lot for the tip, I tested it and the fan indeed started, now I am in doubt if the fan switch is still good. Might order a reserve unit just to be on the safe side.

If you go down that route you'll have an entire bike as spares

What do you mean Seastate? Picked up my NTV this morning, last time it was MOT'd was 2011, went through an MOT station in Leigh on Sea, not even an advisory, after 5 years of idleness? New tyres had been fitted by the previous owner who was only selling it as it was too heavy for him.
It ran back up the A130 and M11 beautifully, 70mph was not a problem! Made it home in fine style.
