Hello everyone
I'm new to this forum, its my very first post!
I was looking for a daily ride so I got this '93 honda NTV rc33 few months ago.
it was a really cheap bike but in dodgy condition.. I had ridden it over 3 weeks and the fuel pump decided not to...
But anyways.. exhaust!
The exhaust was old and had holes in multiple places. while it looks somewhat shiny it was even throwing exhaust at the wheel.
I also did not like this style of exhaust, i'd rather have the side exhaust just as normal bikes have, or otherwise the full exhaust underneath (like the panigale for instance). So i decided to make something of my own.
First thing was ordering wool; ebay UK, took about 1 week to arrive.
I wasn't in a rush to try making one exhaust, but I decided to take remove the existent just to take a quick look. Then this happened
and then this...
This just gave me the urge to get the whole thing out... quite rotten, even on the flanges!
So yes, my weekend has begun
After a lot of head scratching and looking where to find parts (we only have few hardware stores in The Netherlands), decided to go out and get some supplies: Square and round profile tubes. I still had some sheet metal left over from the Samurai fixing up!
the plan went:
1- Make a outer muffler shell
2- Make the adaptor pipes from the current pipes to the new can
3- Make the internals pipes
4- Well all the pipes into the lid of the can
5- Put everything together and hope it sounds good
(total time: roughly 34 hours)
first time put together. I really don't think it looks beautiful like a nice set of akrapovics in a KTM SMC690, but I do like it this way already. The outlet pipes were supposed to be shorter but I thought I'd give them a try.
Also noticed something interesting on the welding. A real dusty smoke coming out of it, and then there was a gentle foam inside... d**n galvanised steel??
First fit in the bike with welded on
After this went for a sound check. it was only quite loud so I decided to put the wool on:
Closing up, tightening it installing rivet by rivet
Very important... weight! 3.760Kg... dnt know the weight of the other, not sure if it's exactly an improvement xD
And finally ready for painting and installed
Personally I like the looks of this better than the other I am also a big fan of square exhaust pipes.
Whats your thoughts? Anyone curious about the sound of it?
Cheers
Romeu
