Went out today for a bit of a ride while the weather's nice, going along nicely and suddenly the power goes then the engine stops.
The bike has been restricted to 33bhp for the past 2 and a bit years. took the restrictor kit off 2 days ago, went for a ride yesterday - the bike seemed completely fine, went out today - bike seemed completely fine and then it just stopped.
I've had a problem with the bike for the past year or so exactly the same as richie318 in this post: "Overheating boiling over grrrr" where the bike overheats quite often. (night not be anything to do with this issue)
The bike had a couple of spots where the power went and then the engine stopped all together (took about 5 seconds) . Checked over the basic electric stuff; starter is working; full of petrol; battery has enough charge and yet nothing.
This has me and my dad completely puzzled as it ran fine for 70 miles before giving up the ghost... any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, everything seems in order, it just doesn't fire at all.

Fuel pump playing silly buggers?

Most common cause is the fuelpump (points worn down). Read my site for more info. The bike will run perfectly if the fuelpump is bypassed, as long as the tank is more than half full.
Alternatively, the Haynes manual has a chapter on fault-finding; read that.
Good luck & keep us informed.

:)hi joshgame. no expert but will try and help.few things to check. with engine overheat. first try a new radiator cap.rubber perishes then does not seal, system does not pressurize. with fuel problem . take pipe off other side of pump. be careful with fuel. push starter and see if you have fuel pumping.. if it is would think of looking at small fuel filters above floats on carbs they are very fine and get blocked, common problem. may be worth cleaning carbs at same time. there are threads on here how to do. another off the wall solution is vent on fuel cap blocked causing vacuum in tank. cap should have pin hole that is vented. let us know how you get on cheers the slug.

No idea what the cause was but the bike started today and ran again like nothing happened. Really odd considering nothing at all had changed.
Thanks for the advice anyway guys.

I had a very similar problem with mine; it used to stop without reason every once in a while. After half an hour it would go again. It turned out to be the fuel pump (definately the pump itself, rather than the contacts, as I replaced these). I got to the stage I could re-route the fuel pipes to bypass the pump in a couple of mins and get going again. After running for a while without a pump, I put on a s/h SV650 vacuum pump, which has worked faultlessly.
