I've been offered a 97 VTR firestorm (or SUPER HAWK, so it does bear some relevance) for my NTV + £100. It's a 30k yellow cat D (crack in the fairing, but it's good condition apart from that) VTR, no tax or MOT. Will pass an mot with no troubles but he can't afford it, and therefore wants a bike he can just ride. The carbs on it need cleaning out though. My Ntv is a 94 41k bike all ready to go in good condition with a Matt black wrap over red.
The thing I'm worried about with the VTR is the fuel consumption! I'd use it for work every day. But I have been looking at litre bikes, the NTV has become a little tame (but still brilliant!) for me. The insurance for the VTR is somehow less than the Ntv (weird)
So I wanna know if it's a good trade! He's a good friend so I trust it isn't dodgy. Is it good value? Thanks!

I've never ridden a vtr further then a few kms but they seem a great bike. As you say consumption is bad and unlike the varadero the vtr has a small tank. It should be reliable, but not the same comfort, and watch out for consumables. If tyres, chain and pads have some life still I'd go for it.

I bought a brand new Firestorm in 97. Ignore what most of the crotch rocket brigade say about them being slow and boring, they are an excellent bike. If it`s in fine fettle the handling is good enough to say it rides itself and they are deceptively fast and well screwed together. Probably the only place you`ll lose out is the difference in the fuel consumption which is in the mid thirtys up to low forties depending how much you yank on the loud handle, but that's the trade off for the performance. I loved mine, I wish I hadn`t got rid, and the missus had a benny when I part exed it for a new Blackbird cos she loved it too. If it`s in nice nick and hasn`t been butchered by a series of `expert mechanics`, the deal you`ve been offered seems like a steal to me, so if you can live without your NTV, go for it.

Thanks guys, I've heard they're great handling bikes.
I wanted to know if it's a fair swap though, I could fetch about £800 for my NTV I reckon, and his VTR has no tax, no MOT, a category D, wants £100 aswell, and needs the carbs cleaning through (it splutters), but runs okay. Just undecided on whether it's worth the effort/ money, or if I could sell mine, save a bit and buy a different bike seeing as I don't have a lot of money myself at the moment :S
