hi love my ntv. only thing that seems to let it down is rear brakes, not as much stopping power as I would like. front is great with dual calipers. have fully serviced rear brakes new pads fluid, all works fine. have seen on forum before of improvements if brake line is changed to braided, my question is does this improve rear braking much,.has any one any other ideas/. different calipers. .. any gurus with an thoughts would be appreciated thanks the slug.

Mine was a bit feeble until I gave it a bloody good stripdown & cleanup, new seals, stainless piston, hi-temp silicon grease on the slidy bits, the lot. The only thing I haven't done is to whack a stainless hose on it, I like HEL for my front anchors, but always go for rubber on the back as my right boot isn't the most sensitive, so a bit of squish saves me from the on/off scenario.
Last MOT, the back got raised eyebrows from the tester as it worked out just as powerful as the front.
Oh yeah - GG pads, not HH as I prefer to wear pads out rather than discs, they're a bit cheaper to replace ....

hi kirriepete, thanks for input. yes I did all seals, caliper is working fine. looking at braided line, found car company will make one up for around 15 pounds. m10 banjo ends.. think will help braking a little maybe stop flex.,with rubber standard rear hose.. happy with front as is standard. feel that a dual caliper system as the front would give better efficiency. thks.

Have you looked at a used one on evilbay? once you get the type that are held on with olives and nuts you can shorten them, just buy an oversize hose Ray

My support brackets are sized to the swing arm, so I cable tied the hose to each one

wez moto are making braided front and rear braided brake lines for 19.95, each pipe. includes banjo bolts washers etc.. life time warranty. seems the best value on web in uk. don,t work for them honest .ssray have you tried freeing off hose support brackets.. plus gas, impact driver.. trouble is you don't want bolts shearing at head. any gurus any tips ideas... update on post braided line arrived today so fitted. put small inserts rubber (cut up inner tube) into mount brakets to make tight fit as braided pipe is a little smaller.. easy fit no problems. braking seems better will try out on run on dry day.. cheers the slug

Sorry to come late to this discussion, as I've been away for the past week.
I never used to understand the talk about a poor rear brake as mine used to be fine, apart from the fact it rattled. I evenually took it to pieces and discovered it was missing the anti-rattle spring in the top of the capiler and the pads were wearing out the caliper retaining pin as they rattled up and down! I duly bought and fitted a new spring and pin, which stopped the pads rattling around, but also made the rear brake much less sensitive and less effective.
My theory is that the poor performance is caused by the friction on the pads from the anti-rattle spring in the caliper. Removing it does significantly improve the rear brake, but will wear out the caliper retaining pin and cause the pads to rattle all the time.
Did Honda use an updated version of this capiler on a newer model, which might have a better spring design???
