In short: I would like to add a little extra horse power - without spending to much $$$, of course - on my NTV 650 revere (M model). I am planning to install a new exhaust (this is more for the weight reduction and cool sound ), some iridium spark plugs, a full synthetic oil (I am using a semi-synthetic motul at the moment) and a K&N air filter. Is this a good combination? What is your advice on the subject? Will the fuel consumption will increase significantly? And the reason why I started this thread: must I make modifications to the carburetors because of the potential increase in air-flow, or are they good as they are and the HP will go up anyway? Thank you for your time! ;D

more noise and less weight will make the bike feel faster for sure, but you're never going to get a significant increase in power and useable speed without doing something serious.
aint no replacement for displacement! Maybe look into an africa twin 750cc top end?
fully synth oil will make little difference to the NTV at all, let alone in speed... keep your bike well maintained and learn to hold speed rather than trying to modify it, modifying a revere for speed is really quite futile, and there is 50-60bhp + 60ft/lb is more than enough to have fun on UK roads, you just have to learn to use it, the biggest performance upgrade you can make is in your riding, and thats mostly free. Maybe try a bikesafe day or something, heard a lot of people say that they were really surprised at just how much faster they were able to ride when following a police rider.

You`ll find a couple of BHP from the mods you talk of, freeing the induction up a tad, maybe some jetting changes and less restictive exhaust will all help, even the irridiums give crisper combustion. But, I agree with sear, YOU are the main limiting factor plus your ability to keep the bike free from any power sapping issues like incorrect tyre pressures, brake calipers sticking slightly, etc play their part too. I have molyslip, Active8 and hypoid gear oil mix in my bevel casing, it all helps reduce frictional power losses through the drive train.

I know what you mean with "no replacement for displacement", but unfortunately I don't think I can afford anything else for the next 2 or 3 years as I am still a student.
good advice with the bike safe courses but there aren't so many options here in romania. of course I always try to keep the bike in top condition, but I would need just a little more energy from it when the idiots that I pass increase the speed when I am doing it.
I didn't knew about that the friction in the drive train can be reduced with products like this. do you actually feel the difference while riding? I will try to find a similar product here, if not, I will make an internet order from a UK site when I will change the oil next time. do you know any reliable ones?

You may be better with semi-synthetic and halving the change times, I have a k&n and std exhaust, I get 65mpg with this setup, I have removed the snorkle but this just adds a bit more noise to me.
You wont get much more hp without spending big bucks, weight loss is free and can make a big diffrence, do you need a grab rail etc

What do you mean by the snorkle, is it something from the exhaust? Sorry, I don't understand some terms in English.

Sorry, I don't understand some terms in English.[/quote] I put the snorkle back on, I was getting a flatspot around 2.75 to 3k, I could have adjusted the pilot cuircits but cant be bothered, I think pod filters would be the way to go with jetting from the usa hawk forum. It was bloody loud for me and I`d like a quiet life Ray
