Here is a photo of my carbs, when I cleaned them last year. I think the springs you're looking for are indicated by the arrows. There's one on each carb. On this photo, the carbs are up-side-down, resting on the chassis (for easy cleaning, without having to undo the cables). GvS

That looks right - I don't have the coil - just the bits it's supposed to force itself against for support - didn't realise there should be one on the other side too - I'll check that out and report back
Where would I get this though? I'm gonna make some calls on Tuesday when everything opens again

Just checked and I do only have the one side! It's got enough that you can gently encourage it to close but it still won't do I have pics but can't see how to upload or how it would be useful unless someone really wants to see my greasy springless bits

I've just done some ringing around and it appears I can only buy it as part of the complete carb! 80 quid it seems!!
Um . . .

They're in my watch list - I'm gonna explore all spring related options first - there must be something I can do that doesn't require an entire carb purchase

I have some springs you can have from early 600 carbs. PM me your address and I will stick them in an envelope for you. No charge. I will be able to post them thursday - so you should get them by the weekend

God bless my MOT tester - he gave th eone remaining spring an extra couple of winds and it gave it enough to get it working - a bodge but a good one
Still failed though - Missed that the front brake was rubbing a bit and a couple of other little bits that I hadn'nt considered - they'll be doing the bits to fix it today because I just need it to use asap - about an hours labour but i have no time!!
Once she's through it's on to the little bits needed before sprucing her up
