Thought others might be interested in my experience with replacing the front brake on my Revere. The brake pin was seized in the old caliper as well as the caliper being seized onto the carrier slide pin, so I decided it needed replacement before it started to become a noticable problem. As many of you will know, trying to find a replacement front brake for a Revere/NTV is not easy! I came across a comment on the forum by Norfolk, saying that he was running a Hornet front caliper, but on an NTV carrier. After doing a bit more research, I took the plunge and bought a s/h left brake from an '04 Hornet. When it arrived it looked a perfect replacement, both carrier and caliper, which was good given that my old ones were seized together! However, once I bolted it together, I realised something metalic was touching the disk. It turns out that although the carriers appear to be identical castings (including casting numbers), the slot for the disk to go through is narrower on the Hornet. The Revere/NTV carrier had obviously been machined out a bit more from the same original casting. Using a file, I widened out the slot in the carrier so that it matched the old carrier and it now fits perfectly. I took a few photos, but unfortunately not of the carrier modification. I'll try to remember to add a photo of this at a later date. Side by side shots: Original brake: New brake:
