Then I assume it's off an NTV as my Revere has the remote adjustment knob.
Sorry I have never used a preload 'collar'

The j model did indeed have a different shock. All the models (afaik) had a pre load collar but the later ones, (k- onwards) had the remote knob too. I'm pretty sure the same c-spanner for all (don't hold me to that though!!! ).

I have a Revere-M, this has the remote pre-load adjustment knob.
I'm looking at wanting to remove this remote knob due to the new rear sub-frame which is being made.
Can this be removed without any detrimental affect or do you want a swap with one without?

I'm looking at wanting to remove this remote knob due to the new rear sub-frame which is being made. Can this be removed without any detrimental affect or do you want a swap with one without? The remote knob is a piston assembly onto the top of the shock to provide preload adjustment onto the spring (similar to a brake master cylinder/caliper arrangement, except you add pressure by screwing in the knob rather than pulling a lever). You could remove the remote knob assembly and cap the pipe as it goes into the shock, but you would loose all preload adjustment. A better option would either be a s/h Revere J model shock (which had a preload adjustment collar on the shock, but no damping adjustment) or, if you can afford it, a new Hagon shock (just under £300) which has a collar for preload as well as damping adjustment. The Hagon is also a much better shock, so you should notice a marked improvement in ride/handling. Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for the info, I've currently got a Showa unit on the bike, whilst a new shock (matched to my weight) would be better. I though Showa was a better unit than a Hagon

If it's a Showa, it's probably the original one, as that's what they came with. I think it's fair to say they were a reasonable shock, rather than anything wonderful. Having said that, if it works for you, why change it?
Can you mount the preload adjuster on the new subframe anywhere? A lot of modded Hawks end up with them attached by hose clips - not elegant, but keeps it on!
