Organ Donation, Easy to do and can help lots of people. More donor's are needed. and its free Why not join or add it to your profile to spread the word. www.uktransplant.org.uk/ukt/how_to_become_a_donor/how_to_become_a_donor.jspTransplants are one of the most miraculous achievements of modern medicine. But they depend entirely on the generosity of donors and their families who are willing to make this life-saving or life-enhancing gift to others. One donor can save the life of several people, restore the sight of two others and improve the quality of life of many more. The more people who pledge to donate their organs and tissue after their death, the more people stand to benefit. By choosing to join the NHS Organ Donor Register you could help to make sure life goes on for many others. Joining the register records your agreement to the use of your organs and tissue for transplantation after your death.

I've had a donor card since I was about 16 I think. And now we've got a national registry over here, where you can state if you want to be a donor or not. Unfortunately all the un-registered people are considered to be not a donor. I think it should be the other way round: If you don't want to be a donor then get it registered.

Same in the UK National Register but unless you logon and register your best bits go to waste. They will only need a small box for me but like the Phoenix I will live on in others. Like you I started with a Kidney Donor Card years ago but now they don't waste anything, I seem to remember I am even leaving my brain for research. (Should not take them long to study that ) thought I would save you the trouble. Seriously, we enjoy a risky but outstandingly good fun way to travel. God forbid we don't make it back, lets go out doing good for others. Please spread the word and be a Donor if you can. If we all sign up or encourage another, lots of people could be helped.

Personally I'm all in favour of an "opt out" rather than "sign in" system. I'd be very happy to know that my organs would be harvested to help others and equally happy to know that my family would be missing a few bits when they are buried/cremated. some might think it's a morbid subject, but let's face it, we're not going to live forever and it's better to make these choices before it's too late. I'm also signed up with the Anthony Nolan Trust www.anthonynolan.org/ a painless process - one small blood sample and enlist onto the register. If someone needs bone marrow, stem cells etc and I'm a match - I would get a call. Every day they manage to help two people find a match which could save their lives. Demand for registered donors continues to increase so they're constantly looking for new "recruits". Do your bit and get in touch with them
