I love the horn on the NTV loudest I've had on a bike ;D BUT they are looking a bit on the dull side, what can I do to spruce them up a bit without interfering on the noise level etc. Any Suggestions

To be specific. My horns were also loud but dull. A pot humbrol enamel paint and a modelers brush did the job. I guess you could take them off and spray them up. I now have nice black horns which are just as loud. Roger

I wondered what this thread was going to discuss when I saw the title "Horns". Was this going to be our first chance to moderate? 139Db - niice Sounds like a Freight Train - Verrrrry niiiice Agree with RJ ref use of horn, however - I have used mine several times this year and every time for the same reason - muppet driver changing lanes without checking. The Pan Euro sports a tasty pair of horns and it wakes drivers up - especially as I'm normally alongside their ear when it goes off. To be fair, this area is a blind spot and the half awake commuter rarely knows what is going on here. I do find myself keeping aware of drivers hands and steering wheels in an effort to anticipate if they're going to do something stoopid. (The amount that are still holding a mobile phone to their ear is incredible, but perhaps not as stoopid as the map / book / newspaper / company report I often see balanced on the steering wheel. I'd like to have an on/off button that activates the horn for a 5 second continuous blast. My opinion - if you're going to sound the horn make it worthwhile - long & loud - make your point! Safe riding everyone

Whatever horn you've got fitted to your bike, it's only usefull if the other road-users (in front of you) can hear it. Three important things to know about electrical horns: - Just like a loudspeaker, it produces the noise in a certain direction. That why they have to be fitted at the front of the bike, pointing forwards. (Not like on a Harley Da&*%^#son, where the horn is normally fitted on the left side of the engine (stupid americans)). - In order to produce all the decibels it can produce, it must be fitted using the small thin strips of metal, that are supplied with the horns. These metal strips must be bolted down to something solid. Try attaching a horn with a tie-wrape (or hold it in your hand) and it will produce only 50% of its normal volume. - If your horn has an e-marking (small "e" in a square, with a certain number added) or an E-marking (capital "E" in a circle, with a certain number added), then it should be OK. Tip: when approaching a potentially dangerous situation, I always put my left thumb already on top of the horn button. In this way I won't lose time trying to find the button, when the situation does become dangerous. Drive safely ! Franklin

Fit the ones off of a 600, they have a chrome surround.

Interesting sickpup, I have the 600 with the chrome surrounds.
Does the 650 (NTV) have less powerfull horns then?
Interesting point franklin and one I have tended to do recently as well, since flattening a pedestrian on my push bike. I do not want to do it on my motorbike, Besides anything else it hurt me as well. ;D

JJ dull horn....have to agree with Rj idea. Bit of model paint and a brush can do wonders. OR Take them off and give them a good polish up, can also make a big difference. Got Chrome ones on mine, off a 600 according to Sickpup. Look nice, with a touch up of paint. Sorry McF, (Horns.. ) Looks like your still looking for that Moderating Moment... ;D ;D ;D

Why have you got a special tool roll ? That's normally only for Harley Da#^%@*son bikes, who break down a lot (or the rider breaks down from the vibrations in the bike).
Our honda's never break down, do they ?
I haven't yet used my (original) tool set.
