Hi All, Just a quick update to tell you the final amount we managed to raise and to thank all those who helped. Final amount came out at £600 + any online donations so a great big thankyou. Anne & Mick, (sheekbiker)

Well done, and thanks for posting to let us all know.
If I recall correctly you weren't able to complete all of your planned visits. How many did you manage in the end?
Are you planning to register this year? If so, we not consider posting a schedule of target sites in order that others could meet you there or en route?

We managed to get 84 out of the 100 landmarks done but then we broke down in Carlisle with what turned out to be water in the carbs and tank, still don't know how it got in to the tank but suspect I had kinked the drain hose when I last had the tank off. I opted to get home on a trailer as we were 309 miles from home and I didn't fancy striping the carbs in a lay by, as it turned out I could have drained them and got going again but that's hind site talking. No we have decided that it was the last time for us to do the RBR ,at 70 years old I no longer want to ride long distance also we want to do some ordinary holidays, this year it will be Jersey. But I can recommend the RBR to you all, it's great fun but addictive. Mick

Mick that is an incredible achievement - well done you and Anne. I daren't make any comment about "at your age" becuase we'll have the world on our heads accusing me of being ageist! ;D 84/100 so near and yet so far. Pleased you identified the problem and hopefully your aNTy is running sweet again. Jersey is a lovely Island. It won't take you long to feel "I've seen it all", even at their 40mph top speed. We took the kids there several years running for summer holidays.

aNTy is running fine again wish they could give me a service and make me feel 20 years younger, mind you Annie says I act very young at times, I think that's a nice way of saying childish. I think we will be doing some geocaching while we are on Jersey so that will get us walking once we have seen the sites and that works up an appetite and thirst so that we can find a pub and replace any weight we might have lost. It's like biking all a matter of balance . Mick.

That makes sense Mick - Geocaching and RBR.
I've done a bit of geocaching myself (in the good old days when I used to have some time). I even had a few caches I tucked away, but I'd lost touch with my ID and I'll have to start again when I get another walking GPS (last one was stolen from a packed bag flight side).

Stolen flight side Hmmm wonder if I can carry it on board or will I get arrested or shot. We only ever take cabin luggage on holiday so should be OK I think. Mick.

I had a zipped carryall with my ski gear in, and a few cans of boddingtons to share with my mate (Brit been living in Zurich for several years). I'd put my GPS in one ski glove and Leatherman with heart rate monitor in the other (I was race training). I flew Teesside - Amsterdam - Zurich on a bad weather day. Small delay at Teesside, but a major delay at Amsterdam. Arrived Zurich daft o'clock in the morning having travelled for 18 hours. Pulled my bag off the belt, then went for my skis. I did notice the zip on the bag was open a few inches, thought "daft bogger, you didn't close that properly", then exited to join my mate for a lift to his place for a few hours kip. Opened the bag to find gloves gone and their contents, no beer either. My thoughts - an X Ray showed the beer, someone opened the bag, grabbed the gloves too as it was bitterly cold then pulled the zip back some of the way. Most likely Teesside (as I doubt they Xray anywhere after point of entry to air system), but could have been anywhere and only taken seconds. I reported it, and still arguing over the claim. Difficulty was I left the Airport so they say I could have done anything with the kit (strangely, no one challenged yet to say had I actually packed the kit, although I had to prove I had bought the stuff) I toyed with the idea of putting locks on bags, but now usually put a coloured cable tie through the zip (I prefer Bergan (Rucksack) or Holdall I can stick on my back). Won't stop anyone getting in, but it would be obvious on a glance if anyone had removed one. carry lots of spares and a blade in an open pocket on the bag. The locks for cases are pathetic and could be opened and reclosed - you would never know. Things are getting better, but it wasn't that long ago when you couldn't carry more than a handkerchief on board!

Hi All, We went to the award giving dinner in Meriden Saturday evening a good do with like minded people and my plans for this years riding got changed. As you know I have said that I would not be doing the RBR again and that still holds good, however one of the lads is running a smaller event in aid of the air ambulance, no sponsorship just £15 to enter and only 15 landmarks. All the proceeds go to the air ambulance so we're in and will be going round all the National Parks in England, Scotland and Wales for our rides out. If any of you fancy giving it a go have a look at www.thegrimrider.com/index.php?p=1_28_BNPR-Forms. Could even give some of this group a place to meet up with a bit of organization at the same time as donating a few quid to a worthy cause. Mick.
