Bisto seems to me to have it spot-on, drill the rivets at the back end of the can Then either it will be one of two kinds, I reckon One kind is actually welded at the end, with an overlap to which to attach the shiny end cone The other kind is, (at least when new) tightly packed with sound-deadening material between inner and outer tubes If the second type, exhaust-gases may have burned away the original material If so, then a good stuffing of new material may be sufficient A custom exhaust builder who caters for the "Ten-Tail-Pipes" brigade should sell you enough heat-resistant fibre for a few quid Even so, if the inner tube has no inhibitor to the outgoing gases at all, then some kind of simple mute must help on three counts 1] For the MoT 2] To reduce back-fires 3] To avoid the Motor Patrol being able to shove a batten all the way down the can..... This may be just me, however I have passed a number of bikes with 'race use only' or 'not for road use' stamped cans by simply getting some insultor tape and covering the lettering. As long as it doesnt have the negative writing it doesnt have to have the bs or kite mark on it. Maybe just me and my mot guy but mine have always passed (inc: cbr600, cbr400, cb500) been a couple of years since I've had to as I havn't needed to with the ntv...As for the popping-its a twin they all do that ! If you get stuck and need a retest I'm off the m25 j3 with a homemade quieter exhaust...

thanks BozBoz i'll definitely bear that in mind. She does sound like a peach so wouldnt mind keeping the Micron on but i guess it depends which MOT tester you take it to?!? That or i'll be stocking up on insulator tape!!
