With all my lovely weekend commute to Port Talbot ;D my baby is getting quite sluggish, especially uphill and overtaking, any suggestions what could be wrong ? Changed the oil and filter, and air filter also freshened the gear oil last week. Fairly new spark plugs. And cant go over 80. And no it aint noithing to do with the colour

maybe your fuel filter is clogged?

I am no mechanic, but I would check for a stretched throttle pull cable and a sticky choke?

And no it aint noithing to do with the colour That was my first thought. You could try a quick respray to check that it isn't ;D By "gear oil", I presume you mean in the final differential? Does your aNTy run OK otherwise? Smooth, no backfiring or misfires? What colour are your plugs? How many miles has she done? Have the symptoms come on suddenly, or gradually? My main suspicion is low compression - you can check this easily if you have access to a compression gauge, it just requires removal of one spark plug per cylinder (and disconnect the other plugs so the bike doesn't start). Each cylinder should produce 192 psi plus or minus 28 psi (13.25bar +/- 1.9bar). The other thing I'm always paranoid about is the diaphragm in the carbs, these do perish and split after a while; they can be replaced, but it's a professional job and circa £35 beer vouchers per carb

maybe your fuel filter is clogged? but I would check for a stretched throttle pull cable and a sticky choke? Two very good points and worth including (if you haven't already) in your checks. The throttle cable is easily done. Do you have much free play before the tension in the cable moves the throttle on the carbs? Open the throttle fully and then check if the throttle on the carbs will open any further. You may need a friend to help hold the throttle open, if you look under the tank, left hand side, you should be able to see the carbs and throttle. The inline Fuel filter is always worth changing (circa £5) and with a lot of miles, it's worth removing and cleaning the wire gauze filter on top of the fuel tap. drain the tank, unscrew the fuel tap from the bottom of the tank and withdraw. A gauze filter (could be plastic actually!) will sit on top of the two pipes and could well be shitted up. If it is, wash with clean petrol and blow compressed air back into it from the fuel pump end.

Or....try synching the carbs....changed my NTV quite a bit. But to summarize: at can be any number of things (But I would respray it...just to be sure )

(But I would respray it...just to be sure ) Buzzin... You know Jan Looooves that colour... ;D ;D JJ i had the same thing with mine, would only go so far up the rev range and anything beyond 60+ was a real struggle... simple fix was a new fuel filter...about £6 iirc... easy job and it may well need a new one, even if its not the cause, but at that price its were i would start.... hth.

Cheers for all the comments, me mate is going to have a look at it tonight, I put in a new fuel filter about six months ago, so I dont think its that. 98.000 on the clock choke has never work, but never needed it !?!! No Backfires or misfirers The re-spray didn't work so I re-sprayed it back to original colour

Just a thought, could it be coking-up? Hope i am not giving offence, but..... If it never needs choke, maybe it is running richer than optimal? I would suggest a "Colour-Tune" - BUT! - I have yet to find a way to fit my old-type version down an NTV plug-hole! Good Luck Ed
