Hi guys,
I got pulled over last night while on the way to one of my community visits (care worker)
Luckily for nothing that would class as a offense, but after the rudimentary breath test, tread depth, general look over of the bike, he told me he had pulled me over because of my exhaust.
It appears it blowing quite badly, and i have tried to remedy this, but everything i put on it to repair it, seems to get blown away by the compression that builds up behind it when the bikes running, any advice would be welcome, i've used gun gum bandage, and that seems to be working to a degree, but its still cracking away around the hole, the hole is rather large, is there anything i can do? (its right near the join of the link pipe to the motad, so its pretty awkward too.
If i put some gum gum putty on it, will that do the same?
I've got two weeks to get this little form back to the police, that has to certify that the exhaust has been sorted (MOT stamp needed)

Hi, Ive got the same prob and i was going to buy some exhaust weld but judging from your saying this wont work so i,ll have to get it welded its the best option! Or buy another exhaust!
PS did you get round to send off the v5 yet? Just i havent recieved anything back!

Keep in mind that welding will only last a short while if the exhaust is rusting from the inside out.... I just have a spare lying around because my exhaust developed a leak.....but as it turned out the leak isn't growing....so no rush to replace it. Can your collector be replaced seperate from the exhaust itsself?

I'm getting it welded later, for cash, so should be cheaper (local guy andy does it in his lunch hour shh)
I'm going for the welding option, as the hole is pretty big, i don't know how its got in that state, considering its a stainless steel replacement, so i think the previous owner must have either done it to try and increase the bikes v-twin sound, or ran over something nasty.
Chris, i sent off the V5 literally the next day, so it should be finding its way to you soon, i'm also waiting on mine for my current NTV, so maybe theres a little bit of a back up over ad the DVLA.

Ok, thanks its not unusual for the dvla to take ages the thunderbird one took a 2 months!
Im thinking of running seprates on mine as is would get rid of the junction box the cause of the corrosion i presume as water can collect in between were the two header pipes join!
Im think either a set of cbr250 cans or couple of ducati monster cans ive seen loads of these about for about £20 each, and it would give the bike a more aggresive look and sound better hopfully!
Has this been done before, and does anyone know if upjetting would be required?

that does sound interesting, would you run one of the down pipes round to the other side, or mount both on 1 side?

Straight up on one side like on a rgv250 i would have to make a angled bit of pipe to do this but shouldnt be to difficult my mates got a pipe bender i may have to borrow

I would Norfolk, mind you, Wiltshire is police central, i work just down the road from Wiltshire Police HQ.
I didn't try telling the officer how nice a open pipe would sound lol. I've decided to go whole hog, and just replace the exhaust with a nice fuel one, does any1 have any experience with how easy they are to fit? and more to the point, how easy is it to remove the motad can, as it seems to be super glued in place (hacky hacky i reckon/ with a mallet for back-up)
Do the Fuel exhausts sound good?

When useing gumgum etc, I have always foung it better to use when the pipes are hot. apply and let cool, help stop the cracking etc on the next start up.
Strip the joint, clean off any oil, soot or previous gumgum with wire brush, place joint back together without clamps, warm up the bike 2-3 mins, pull apart and apply gumgum or exhaust paste, reseal and clamp.
p.s. have a pair of gloves handy, save leaving ur skin on the pipes.

Interesting I have never used it before but assumed it just wrapped round the outside of the connecting pipes?

Interesting I have never used it before but assumed it just wrapped round the outside of the connecting pipes? That's the bandage, which is either impregnated with the firegum, or not and you have to smear the firegum on. Another proprietery name is Gungum and it's pretty much the same stuff

i brought a carbon oval fuel can, sounds lovely piece of piss to fit. i have left the baffle in mine as do very early starts and ride through alot of villages, i think they would send a lynch mob after me if i removed it........
as to removing the old one, if its been in place more than a couple of years then straight forward vandalism is called for.
Best tool for job is a dremel with a mini grinder, cut 4 groves down pipes being carefull not to cut the header pipes underneath and then split with a small chisel and hammer.
cheers ed

when i took my motad pipe off i undid the small nut and bolt and sprayed wd40 on it had a cup of tea ,then moved it up and down to get it loose then had a large screwdriver and rested it on the pipe that fitted to the down pipe and hit the screwdriver with a hammer and the shock freed it with one smack of the hammer , outlaw
