lol The worst part is I was stone cold sober. (seemed funnier to add over a beer, or less daft Easily excited. The same lads are doing the Road to Santiago next April. Even I know I am not upto 10 days off road at 60 miles a day! So the next best daft idea was The South Downs Way.

Well just had a look at the site.....Gulp! Sure if you've put your mind to it RJ, you will make a good stab at it... Good luck with the training, and best of luck for the ride.... would deffo recommend padded cycling pants, vaseline and possibly a gel seat, if you are not already covering 10-15 miles in the saddle everyday..... (your gentlemans bits and your backside are going to be real tender at the end of that first day otherwise..... ) Vaseline at start of the day, a shower and possibly an ice pack at the end... ;D Awesome ride....

Roger I thought I was daft Still, 50 miles per day means you only need to average 5 miles per hour if you're in the saddle for 20 hours per day. I've walked most of the route and know you are in for some spectacular riding - so enjoy and while you're there, check out the Spitfire - Achtung baby www.shepherd-neame.co.uk/beers/index.php?Beers

I always thought that 10 times 5 is 50 ? So that would be 10 hours at an average of 5 mph to get 50 miles. That would mean 14 hours rest per day GvS

and probably need that long before you could even consider getting back on the bike.... ;D ;D 5 miles x 10 hours does indeed equal 50 miles a day, that McF and his dodgy calculator, Did try and tell him that those 'Nigerian Space Agency' Ebay special calculators would be no good....

I and push biking it to work for the next few weeks and getting in some miles up the gym. 20 miles on the spin bike yesterday in 56 minutes.
This weekend is the first ride off road. 11 miles with the family. Once I have the route in my head I plan double, triple, etc laps for the following weekends.

Still, 50 miles per day means you only need to average 5 miles per hour if you're in the saddle for 20 hours per day. Well done class, you have all passed for spotting my deliberate and intentional mistake. Or, because I am not a lying, scheming and manipulative politician (today's news of a autobiography released today is on in the background!), I have to confess my mistake and own up to the consequences! Oooops - what a blunder I've been rather busy all summer, but August seems to have gone daft; I've struggled to find time when near a PC to do much.
