I have translated this from dutch....and it's most likely a translation from something else.
It's an old one, but I liked it

Tinkerers often don't just do it themselves, but often do everything themselves. This is commendable but not without risks. This can be concluded from the following (fictional) letter to an insurance company.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I write to you after receiving your letter asking for additional information regarding accident report 85/07/6346. In field 3 on this report I had listed "doing everything myself" as the cause of my accident. In your reply you asked me to clarify this description. I hope the following information will be enough to clarify.
As a hobby I restore old motorbikes. On the evening of the accident I was getting two of these bikes and some spare parts down from the attic.
Because it's not easy to get a bike down the stairs, especially without help, I decided to load the bikes on a wooden pallet and bring them down along the front side of the building using a rope and pulley.
After securing the rope downstairs I went upstairs to load the pallet with the bikes and swung the pallet outside. (see attachment 1a)
Now I went downstairs and untied the rope. To prevent any damaged I held on properly so the the cargo of 700 lbs didn't come down too fast.
In field 2 on the accident report you can see my weight is about 170 lbs.
To my surprise I was lifted from the ground. Because of the surprise I forgot to let go of the rope and was ascending at high speed towards the 5th floor.
Around the 3rd floor I met the pallet which was heading down (see attachment 2b) which explains the concussion and broken collarbone.
Slowed down only slightly I still ascended and only came to a full stop after my hand was caught in the pulley up to the second phalanx. (see attachment C). I stayed conscious and held on to the rope.
At about this time the pallet reached the ground floor. The shock of the landing caused the bikes to come off the pallet. (see attachment D).
The empty pallet only weighs about 50 lbs. (reference to field 2 on the accident report)
As you can imagine this led to me rapidly descending. Again around the 3rd floor I met the pallet. (see attachment B2). This explains the two broken ankles and the contusion of my legs and lower body.
The second encounter with the pallet did slow me down enough to make the impact on the motorbikes slightly less, causing me to only brake 3 vertebrae.
At this point I lost consciousness and I can only assume I let go of the rope at this time. This caused the pallet to come down from the 5th floor and on contact brake both my legs.
I hope I have supplied you with enough information into the cause of this accident.
Kind regards,
