I've been thinking about the second video:
I think this could be a classic case of: "your vehicle will go in the direction you're looking" Or in dutch: "je gaat naar datgene waar je naar kijkt".
The person in the yellow car (what was he or she doing ? not noticing a police bike with blue lights & presumably the siren going) sees the policeman too late, he/she brakes hard (the car presumably has ABS, like most modern cars) and looks at the policeman while he tries to back up his motorbike.
Because of this the car follows the policeman towards the hard shoulder and hits him.
Of course, this is all speculation from my side. But I think that if the driver of the yellow car had looked at/towards the escape route, this accident would not have happened.

I googled for this accident and got a bit bigger picture: there's a lot of discussion going on in various forums on whether the policeman should have put himself & motorbike in that lane. There's also some very unfriendly comment by several people. Two remarks: 1. The policeman survived the accident. He suffered from a fractured jaw, a concussion and a small fracture in one of the bones of his neck. 2. At the time of this accident there was also a big accident on the other side of the motorway. (Is that where one ambulance and three motorbike cops were going ?). Here's a photo of the whole scene: Perhaps the driver of the yellow seat was distracted by the whole scene (incl. trauma helicopter) on the other side of the motorway ? (I think there's another lesson to be learned there ) GvS

Hi GVS. I saw this videa a good while back.. i thought the yellow car was unsighted when the car in front pulled out as intructed by the officer, but looking at the full picture you posted it does seem very likely that the driver was rubber necking (watching the other crach scene ) rather then paying attention to their side of the road. Target fixation...mmhh probably, could have missed him, but that was all over in split seconds once they DID spot the cop, so instinct not reaction took over... something is infront of you, you swerve to avoid it... unfortunatley the cop moverd back into that space, it seems..(was awhile a go i saw it.. ) good to hear the officer survived....

To be more precise (I saw this video the day it happend) the police + ambulance were coming from the accident on the other side. This meant the driver of the car(s) was/were distracted and the policeman didn't take this properly into account. That said, I still think the car driver(s) are to blame as he/them should focus on the road infront of them....not the other side, no matter how much pretty lights are flashing....
(I say driverS as the car behind the yellow one doesn't do a much better job at seeing anything....)
