Not my bike but I did get to take her for an 80 mile ride this weekend. A 650 V-Twin is a bike that will make you They have a very low seat and feel like a small bike as they are narrow. The SV is light and precise (she flowed through the bends well) and as easy to ride at walking pace, as they are at speed. The riding position on this one is more over the bars which for a longer ride was fine, but may encourage progress in some people.. Suzuki do make one apparently, with more sit up style bars, which may beinteresting to try at some point. (I would be very interested to here if any of you have tried one of these or another V-Twin of this size.) The SV650's are a lovely bike and as you now know very smooth to ride. I wanted a SV650n which is the naked upright version but at 6'3" tall I look silly on it. The SV1000n is also a fantastic bike but again isnt much bigger in physical size. 650cc is enough for me too. SV650n

Is a 650 twin the perfect size for a bike?

Big enough for all the real world power you'd need, but not so big you're scared of the throttle.

I'm not scared of my throttle on my V-strom....but that's because I am mad It will bite you in the ass if not driven carefully. The NTV and other 650 Vs will allow you to be slightly less carefull....so yes, they are ideal. And if Suzuki hadn't made such a good offer on the DL1000 AND stuck two exhausts on the 650...I would have bought the DL650

mmmm vtr's are nice! engine is basically a 1000cc chain drive ntv lump I know a courier with over 200,000miles on his! only problem is massive carbs so 20-30mpg max!!!
sv650's nice bike but poor build quality from what I have seen lots of problems with big ends going and eating the engine alive at around 40,000miles scary stuff!

hehe doing my work you see all kinds of stuff, all bikes have there problems!
Ntv the dreaded 2nd gear (only at ridiculous mileage in comparison to other bikes)
yamaha thundercat/thunderace/r6 can all suffer from 2nd gears going
xv750/1000/1100 starter clutch's pack up
italian bike electrics are shocking
chinese bikes everything is terrible!
bmw's eat clutches
a lot of kawasaki's like to destroy cam chains
gsxr's 750's/ sv's/tl1000s have camchain tensioner trouble which leads to camchain failure!
