Is she starting OK, just lower revs?
Does she run OK or erratically?
Is all of the power there when riding, especially cold
Once warmed up, does she tick over in the correct range? (600cc = 1200; 650 = 1100 plus or minus 100 rpm for each)
Worth checking all of the fuel and air systems for leaks, especially from cracked or perished rubber. Visual inspection for obvious external signs, listen carefully (sometimes helps to use a small diameter tube) for sounds of hissing or sucking (if you can hear anything above an unsilenced exhaust ;D
Is your air filter clean?
How recently have you synchronised your carbs?
Are your fuel filters clean?
If none of the above yield an improvement, it could be time for some serious looking inside the carbs. I'd start by taking the tops off and checking the rubber diaphragms (pray they're OK otherwise it's circa £30 each to have them replaced). Then it's jets all clean, float heights OK, but I suspect it's unlikely to be either of those.

Worth pursuing a little closer check all the rubber manifolds and air filter housing for leaks I'm guessing the most important will be the carb to cylinder head manifold

thanks McF well one of the manifold rubbers was slightly loose not sure if its made any differance yet though It will have done no harm to tighten the clip - let's keep fingers crossed that this was to blame!

seems like it was the choke cable fitted a new 1 today...................cold start & 30 seconds ish to 3000rpm
what im wondering is why my choke cable dont last too long
could it be cos my bars are wider & slightly higher even though there seems to be enough slack to cope
thats now my 5th cable in 2 years

Could it be the 'splitter' get caught somewhere with steering? I have problems with the cables not seating right in it....some bodging later and it still works, but I know the problems it can cause (in my case I couldn't turn off choke...)
