Hi
Recently I noticed that the speedo cable outer rubber coating of my anTy is becoming damaged. I think it must be due to the frequent contact with the metallic bracket where the front brake hose is fitted, on top of the front wheel. It seems there is friction due to suspension oscilation.
Does it happen on your bikes too ?
These cables are cheap but I was wondering if mine is not well mounted, because theoretically this should not happen...

Any chance of a picture so that we can compare the routes our cables take?

Hi Cyphron, I didn't see this first time around, only RJ's response
Depends on how badly and how quickly the damage is occuring.
The second outer layer on the cable is designed to protect the cable itself and therefore keep it waterproof and dirt and grit from entering.
There should be a bracket, on the brake caliper to prevent the cable runbbing against the disc and interefering with the brakes, and a small plastic one on the mudguard to stop chafing on the mudguard and keep the cable lined up correctly.
If you are experiencing heavy damage quickly building up, I'd suggest a good look to prevent further wear and tear. If it is only slight and not happening very quickly, that should be normal.
If you need to add more protection on the cable, try adding some plastic tube.
As RJ says, a few photos might help to compare your cable run with other peoples

This what mine looks like: There is a small amount of damage to the outer cable (indicated by the arrow). Sorry, not a very clear photo. Didn't have a better one. GvS

Hi ! I Finally had some time to get back to the bike and take a look at some small issues on it... Mine looks like yours Graaf, but the problem is on a different area of the cable. Here are two pics : I already had to put some tape around the cable to prevent more damage. I guess the cable should not touch that metalic bracket in normal conditions. I am thinking maybe the front shocks are becoming too soft making the suspension course bigger and so letting the cable touch the bracket. Is there any suspension adjustment ? Maybe time to change the suspension oil ? thanks
