but it is my other interest so I thought I would share it with you. In his bedroom! So your interest is snooping around in other people's bedrooms?

It's actually a PC Game. (Simulator) Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 www.microsoft.com/games/PC/flightsimulator.aspxI tend to end up reading about it more if I am honest. You can fly it once loaded round the world in real time The best bit is you can fly it as I say once loaded or spend hours downloading free planes / scenery / aircraft repaints / new plane panels or sound modifications / Navigation systems etc You can even fly on-line and chat with other pilots. Some of this gets a bit serious for me with formal flight procedures on some sites! I tend to want to mess about too much

GvS The evidence was there, provided by the man himself ;D I would say: so you fly model airplanes ? Tell us a bit about this other hobby. GvS We do have a qualified model airplane flying instructor on the forum; I shall let the person introduce themselves. I know this because on an earlier meeting it was disclosed to me when I happened to mention my own radio controlled helicopter Ooops, I've said it now ;D

It's actually a PC Game. (Simulator) Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 I rarely get chance these days, but I do have this software, with a Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick with feedback - awesome. I like to fly around in a variety of the aircraft offered. Boeing 747 is an experience but I've never managed to land it. The glider is good fun; but the flying lessons are my favourite. I did progress rather well, but would probably have to start all over again. Did you ever try MS Combat Flight Simulator - that is very impressive. I also got the Pacific version with aircraft carrier to land on - that was dodgy

Hmmmmmmm nuff said.......lol If you like combat flying try IL2 Sturmovick, now thats real combat flying. Was also a ACE in on-line Air Attack combat flying. Did a bit on MS combat flight but not as good as Air Attack or IL2. Yes I put me hands up I used to teach RC flying, I once taught a real 747 pilot to fly RC aircraft, and he thought is was harder than the real thing But that in yer spare room is cool, Wonder if Jan would lend me her spare room.....lol

I got bored with it after doing flights around europe in real time with real maps....on a C64. That doesn't stop me from enjoying flightsims....just usually not longer than about half an hour

That looks interesting! I rarely have time or enthusiasm for something like this, but I have in the past enjoyed a "proper flight" in MS Flight Simulator, starting with engines off, parked up on the Apron etc and then doing everything manually to start up, permission to taxi, etc etc. I wouldn't be prepared to pay for something like this (use of Cix is circa £8 per month) as I wouldn't feel enough benefit for this, but there is some merit for the odd occassions.... ;D If you do look into it, grateful for an update. I have had a couple of hours proper flying instruction and may have an opportunity to get to solo standard in a glider this year on a week long course. The problem with all of this is that investing in the courses to get solo etc is only the step towards another qualification etc - it's a never ending money pit!

I agree, the CIX site looks very interesting. Thanks RJ2.
I have FS2004 and a CH yoke installed but don't use it much as I would prefer to fly 'local' and our 3 airports don't seem to be covered. The CIX fees are on a par with my local model club fees so that's not too bad.
Like McF I have had a couple of flying lessons and a good few years ago (before kids) had about 13 flights in a glider but the time and expense of joining a club was more than I could justify so I stuck with the fixed wing models. Now my second eldest son can fly better than I ever could!
Sometimes I think too many hobbies (bikes, model airplanes and computers) can leave you with little time and money to enjoy any one to its full potential but I wouldn't like to have to give any up!

I thought some of you must also be flyers ;D If I am honest I read about it more than do it but its still fine. I agree time is the issue and the web makes it easier to bring hobies together Look what I found. Modified Knee Board application Now I can do both at the same time. ;D
