Hi people, MOT Soon and have some dumb ass questions... 1. Number plate light... Is one required... cos both the 600 and 650 i have does not have one... is this correct 2. Brake lights.. does the brake like need to come on when using the rear brake As the trike i have does not have a switch and i cannot see a switch on the bike i have either. ( also seeing as most of the braking is done with the front anyway )

The NTV has a 'transparent' underside to the normal back light, meant to illuminate the license plate. This is mandatory I believe (but I don't know the exact MOT points) The back brake needs to trigger the brake light as well. there is a little pull switch attached to the rear brake with a spring (I believe), it should be easy to find as it's adjustable. I'm reasonably sure this will be an MOT fail if it doesn't work...

Mostly answered above. As Buzzin says, your rear light illuminates the number plate There was a time (back in the day) when only the rear brake operated the brake light. As oddjob says, the rear brake light switch is behind the right side hanger; it pulls almost horizontal, so it's not where you would expect it to be. The switch is fairly universal, so if it has succumbed to the elements (highly likely) you should be able to get a replacement quite easily. I wonder if it is mandatory to have a brake light operated from the rear brake? It may be acceptable to just have a brake light that illuminates when a brake is operated (presumably that's why you haven't had a problem with the trike). The check list for Motorbike MOT is here www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/Motorcycle%20MOT%20Inspection%20Checklist%20%28VT%2040M%29.pdf. It isn't very clear what exactly they will check but I'm sure your local tester would advise. A simple rule for MOTs, if it is fitted, it should work. Eg I do not think it is mandatory to have rear view mirrors, but if they are fitted, they have to be crack free. Likewise with indicators. I don't think they are mandatory to be fitted, but if they are present, they must work correctly, be of a minimum size, flash rate and dimensions either side of the bike conform.

i will look to see if i have one in the pile of bits i got with the other bike... does anyone know if it's a simple toggle switch ? Even simpler. I would describe it as a barrel switch. The spring pulls a rod out from the barrel and makes a contact inside. A spring inside pulls the rod back when tension on the external spring is released also with regards to the number plate light elumination... both the bike and the trike do not have a clear panel under the rear brake.... That sounds very odd. The lens for the rear light should be red at the back, but with a clear pane underneath, just like this cgi.ebay.co.uk/NTV-600-650-REAR-LIGHT-ASS-LENS-COMP-NEW_W0QQitemZ120497272332QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item1c0e32760c

Right people, the brake light on the bike is as it should be, the trike has some sort of cover over the clear bit ( don't know why but can be removed easily ) The brake pedal brake switch should be easy as well, there is a mechanism under the rear wheel arch, i can easily put a switch under here somewhere.... well, that those fixed then thanks again everyone for you prompt reply's

Probably blanked off because there was no registration plate there to illuminate The brake pedal brake switch should be easy as well, there is a mechanism under the rear wheel arch, i can easily put a switch under here somewhere.... well, that those fixed then Sounds good thanks again everyone for you prompt reply's You're welcome, it's what we're hear for. Well... The rear brake mechanism does have a switch, right up in the mudguard.... but after removing the rear and side panels.. followed the wire .... found the end of them.... not connected...and the connectors fit the plug it's meant to go into tested the switch anyway... doesn't work there's a surprise !!! also found an alarm under the back as well.... also not connected apart from 1 constant live and 1 ignitions live.... no others. i am sure i will find more....
