Do you think the suit makes him look fat ? there's a man that knows what he likes. and you find the "all you can eat" pie counter by walking straight past the salad bar. But don't go behind this guy because by the time you get to the Pies, they will all have gone!

he is the EX deck monkey on McF's ship tonight, and got the push after eating all those scrumptious fish and chips.... (McF you have been warned, see the future and take heed... ;D ;D ) Someone asked "Foredeck Monkey?" Here is why? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb_oSCvCJdkor www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_oPgu-MG8Eit's probably rather long for most people, but worth a watch and I can confirm that this is actually a lot scarier than it looks, even though (or because?) you know you're hooked on to the boom. The boat is probably doing around 10Kts to windward (circa 11-12 mph), it hurts when you clip your leg/arm/head in it. As you can see, when beating to windward (tacking into the wind), the boat heels over and there isn't much space between boom and 'oggin! This one is interesting as it looks like a carbon fibre boom, which we all treat with a lot of respect and would not place a point load (like a swinging, wet man) underneath it. At around 80Kg I'm quite a lot on the boom, would we ever let "Michelin Man" on the boom, or up a halliard? No chance - probably not even room on the boat

Ah McF now i can why the phrase is so called. poor wee f****rs must have no fear or be immortals. Do look to be just to slung up like a piece of cheap Xmas decoration. Wonder how many a ship might have in a race? sure to lose a few each time surely rope or no rope, During Cowes week the Solent must be full of the F****rs........... ;D said it before but the sheer speed and force of the water does make that a daunting task to volunteer for. At the risk of sound really stupid, i kinda get the big sail as it 'pushes' the boat forward using the wind, but why do ships have 2 or more sails, do they serve another purpose. Can you point me to a '101'class in wind assisted sailing perhaps. Still amazing to think that sailors with little or no confidence that the world was NOT Flat still sailed off into the great unknown on such primitive technology, almost comparable to the space flight program of the 60's and 70's

poor wee f****rs must have no fear or be immortals. Neither applies, I think we're just plain stoopid! Wonder how many a ship might have in a race? sure to lose a few each time surely rope or no rope, During Cowes week the Solent must be full of the F****rs........... ;D I normally race on a Sigma with 7 crew, 2 of us man the foredeck, I'm normally the stoopid one of the two! said it before but the sheer speed and force of the water does make that a daunting task to volunteer for. No-one holds a gun to my head, so I suppose I do volunteer! Racing a yacht is pure teamwork, probably at an extreme end of the spectrum, adrenalin is pumping, jobs need to be done and some people are just a lot more stooopid than others At the risk of sound really stupid, i kinda get the big sail as it 'pushes' the boat forward using the wind, but why do ships have 2 or more sails, do they serve another purpose. Can you point me to a '101'class in wind assisted sailing perhaps. Simply put, more sail area = more power = more speed. I used to race a single man/single sail dinghy www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv0UrF-tZmE, so one sail is quite acceptable (this is a laser on a plane (skimming across the water), one of the most exhilerating things you can do ;D) We've all seen the big square riggers www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYFJOVFkiRo with several masts and many sails, principles are much the same just more sail area. The challenge when you have more than one sail is balancing the power so that you get as much energy as you can from each sail, but don't have too much from either forward or aft. If you don't get this right, the boat will want to steer up or downwind, which means you have to apply rudder to correct the steering, which causes drag and therefore slows you down. I'll find you a sailing lesson and post again
