Does anyone know what causes rough idle?
Norfolk's bike's running really rocky, book says it could be all sorts but was wondering if anyone has any other ideas.
He's tried changing the spark plugs and caps, and he's ran some redex through it, it improved very slightly but nowhere near enough.
We're going to check his valve clearances and balance his carbs over the weekend. If that doesn't work I'm outta ideas.
Does anyone have any other ideas what it might be?
Bikes on 89k miles and had nothing really done to it over the last 18 months

Actually, I should think after the balance it should be over. The rough idle in mine was due to that. Ow....and check that the choke cable is actually disengaging, one of them got stuck on mine.

Assuming all of the obvious basic servicing is up to date, carb balance is a good place to start. If you have the kit, it's pretty easy to do. Results and remedy usually achieved all in one go.
Buzzin's suggestion about choke cables is a good one, they can make life awkward.
Next to think about would be the coils and confirm they're not cracked etc
Then the ignition senders and it gets rather messy thereafter!

Thanks for that, the choke cable one does seem pretty obvious now it's mentioned, my choke cable did start sticking at one point but it just made a nice tickover speed hard to achieve, I'll get him to check that out.
Unfortunately we don't have any balance gauges, but my dad does and i've asked him if he'll do it over the weekend.
Thanks loads!

I hope this sounds like your problem is solved. New choke cable? Good work with the valve clearances and carbs Hope your aNTy is smooth and well behaved now!
