Hi, New to this forum and a recently returned rider in Australia. About nine months ago I completed a custom build on a 1970 SL350 based cafe racer and began riding again after a 25 year absence. I love my little Honda but unfortunately the old body does'nt agree with my heart. I live in a fairly " remote " part of central Victoria with a minimum return distance of 200 km to reach anywhere with a motorcycle shop or club meeting point. The SL custom is really a great town bike but is not practical for my situation, Great fun building her though. I recently began looking for another ride to ( 1 ) Suit my location ( 2 ) Suit my age and ( 3 ) suit my club. I am a member of the VJMC and Japanese bikes of 15 years or older are recognized VJM's and anything from 25 years or older is eligible for the club permit scheme. I had not intended to buy an NTV but when I came upon mine it ticked every box in my requirements and more. The NTV Revere was located in Melbourne ( 600 km ) round trip and going for a song, I had to secure it unsighted or I would miss out. The Revere had not been started for two years but when I got it home I changed the fluids hooked her up to a starting battery and away she went and she runs and idles perfectly, Everything works as it should without exception. Anyway sorry about the ramble but glad i found this site. Alan

Welcome to the club. The Revere is a great bike.
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.
Great post, I look forward to your future project and with luck, trip post from Aus.

Thanks guys for your welcome, I have the Revere booked for a road worthy test on Monday. I have a permit to ride it to the test and this will also be the first real ride I have undertaken on the bike. This will be as I said a 200 km round trip but based on the little test rides I have done locally this should be a breeze. I will keep you posted. Alan

Hi, I attended the road worthy examination and it went really well, They failed the front tyre and the rear disc. I will cop the tyre although I believe it is borderline, however I have queried the rear disc which they say failed due to scouring. A little bit of treatment with emery cloth has removed the scouring marks as they were mostly just shadows, I do think rear pads need replacing but I will see how I go. I also have the bike booked in for registration and will do what needs to be done to accomplish that end. The return ride of 200 km was great although I was a little disappointed with top gear acceleration both at 60 kph and 100 kph, I will look into this in future as even dropping into fourth did not excite me much especially as acceleration of a standing start is satisfying though not startling. Hmm...something is wrong if it doesn't pull from 60 kph. Although I would usually do this in 4th, not 5th. Even at 100k it doesn't really waste too much time to get to 120/130....so I would look into it. Might try air intake/filter and carbs balancing... (and all the usual things)
