Thanks all for your offers of support, in our bike research.
The chap in wales is going to take it back. When this is all finalised, I will post big here as he is clearly a good shop to work with.
It should be on its way back to him in the next day or so.
good to know anyway.
I added my cbr fuel pump to our list of parts that do fit, and read in another of your psts that you have a bross front brake on yours, are you going to add this to the list?
The other idea I had was to look on commercial sites and check part numbers ie if a type of shock fit x number of bikes then in reverse shocks of said bikes via ebay must fir ours ;D If this theory works it would give us a much bigger pool to pick from.

Not having received a handbook with the bike, I only found out today, after 2 years, that the NTV shock has adjustable rebound, I thought it only had variable preload. I discovered it while taking more bits off to clean and check found this screw head near bottom mount, so checked out an online manual and there it is described in full, what is even better is that it is still nice and free and turns through its full range with no problem. You will all probably think I am just daft not knowing it is there. As far as I know Deauville shock does not have this capability.

sorry I should have taken a better picture. I don't think I can see one though. Not sure how to adjust either though but I am sure it would help to know? Perhaps another topic for the great southern rideout. or did I mention that already this evening ;D plenty of pics if you can't come. But I hope you can.

Ah yes, make sure you know how to set it, and adjust properly....it does make a difference (well, assuming it still works) Mind you, I don't know about the earliest Revere.....it was the only one with a different shock (without the big knob)

I have an 89 Revere and say with care "I have a big knob". I just dont know what to do with it. Sh1t that sounds even worse. I give up.

The 88 (if I'm not mistaken) doesn't have the knob (it has the setting, but you have to have a special spanner to set it. The knob is to set the preload on the spring, it winds the spring up a bit so to say. When loading the bike heavy you should set it higher, when going around a track lower Check out the usermanual....

Is the NTV coil-spring made from slightly thicker bar than that of the Hawk? Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I learned recently the load-capacity difference 1mm can make A Bandit 1200 coil-spring unit is also 300mm between centres, with a top-eye and bottom-clevis When I fitted the Bandit unit to my NTV, the rear suspension sagged, a lot... The red spring in the above picture looks about the same thickness of bar as that of the Bandit If so, maybe the Hawk GT is lighter? Also, is the distance from the swingarm pivot to the shocker-mount equal on both bikes? (meaning is the leverage of the weight of the Hawk against the spring less than the NTV?) HTH Ed

The above pictures are of a Deauville, not an NTV (or Revere). But yes, the Hawk is lighter then an NTV. (smaller tank and aluminium frame will do that )

The problem is with the lower end of the shock as the Deauville is closed with the bolt passing through the middle compared to the Revere shock which is open and locates on the swing arm prior to being bolted.
Shown poorly in the lower of pictures in my first post at the top of this thread.
Anybody want to add a pic of a Revere shock off the bike for comparison?
