I was chatting to my mechanic mate today and he told me this tip.
If you sand down the pitting with wet and dry and then seriously degrease the area.
Then apply super glue and let is dry.
Sand again with wet and dry.
Job done.

Nice idea worth a try and a lot easier than stripping down forks and a whole lot cheaper than new stanchions or rechroming the old ones.
Be great to hear from anyone that tries this

We used to use epoxy resin years ago to fill the rust / pot marks

When I bought one of my NTVs the chap said he'd replace the fork seals before I picked it up as they were leaking. He did but not long after not very many miles they started leaking again which explained why my front brake was not very good. After having fun getting them out I replaced them with Honda seals as I've read reports that after market ones just didn't last long on the NTV (bit of a bugger as I've bought some leak proof ones for my other ntvs forks). On inspecting the forks prior to putting them back together I found the stanchions were badly pitted and actually felt sharp edged running your finger over them. After searching the net for fixes, apart from hard chrome plating one fix was araldite then rubbing them, down. Not a nice job to do but the seals are still OK 2 years on.

'N' as I call her/it had 8080 miles on the clock when I bought her (29/01/06, very very good condition apart from surface rust on the chrome). Now has 29K miles on the clock so the araldite filled pitted forks have done 21K miles and still OK. She and 'P' (my other NTV, bought 14/11/04, 11800 on the clock, now 30K, showroom condition when I bought her) do 200 miles a week back and forward to work all year round. I try to alternate between the two. Ride one while I service the other. I bought another because I can't hack being stuck in traffic in the car. I also have another NTV called 'M', an ex dealers lone bike. Long story. Used to be a London despatch rider hence NTVs.
