First electric bike I took an interest in, was at; Great Dorset Steam Fair. Displayed on the Brooklands Museum stand. (But not at the museum?) It was constructed by the students of Kingston University as a project. I think; I remember that it was run at the Isle of Man, but broke down? Been looking at Bros/Hawk items on the interweb recently & found this:- www.evalbum.com/1284 Remembered the; 'Electric Project Bikes' section... So pasting it on... Hope it's of interest to some-one.

There is fantastic progress being made with performance of electric bikes I was staggered to hear that "they" are very close to achieving a lap on the Isle of Man TT with lap speed of more than 100mph. In the recent qualifying rounds, an unofficial record of 102.5mph was set with the bike hitting 153mph at one stage. To be fair, there is nothing in the "tank" when the bikes cross the finish line (and indeed one ran out of juice 800m too early). All on batteries Feels kind of wrong, but I'm sure when horseless carriages were first seen on the roads people said "it will never work" www.motorbikenews.co.uk/electric-bikes-prepare-to-shock-the-world-with-100mph-lap-record-of-the-isle-of-man-tt-mountain-course/

Interesting article, good find DeeDee Not sure this project makes economic sense - he goes through batteries at one hell of a rate and compared to a proper engine, that lump in the frame just looks bl00dy awful

erm.. nice idea but there goes the frame rigidity out the window.. the 1st bend will tell the rider why Honda use the engine block as part of the frame... "it's the future as we know it.. Jim"

Jim" From his blog top speed = 60mph but he also says his average speed is 40mph so I don't think he's likely to be pushing it round the bends too much

The Kingston University bike I saw at GDSF looked like a track day bike. I think it was in 2010. (Looked through photo's, but can't find images.)
I was really only into looking at the old Brit bikes when I came across it. There was no big signage, it was fully faired & it was a tidy looking bike. The only attraction for me to look over her was to:- Find out where they'd tucked the exhaust... (Doh!) That's only why I discovered that she was electric! But, from across the exhibition. That was the only apparent give away. I believe the frame was modified, (Purpose built?) but hidden by fairing.
The performance figures for electric bikes are beginning to get impressive; Speeds & range are raising, but as always to get them; So are the costs!

yea it's the future... it's all down to battery technology and the charging points, i don't see the large oil companies being too helpful in either area, saw a Bus on BBC that charges £1000 battery's in 1/2hr... NTV >> New Technical Voltage

Nothing like having your computer crash for sorting out files, lol! Found the images I'd lost; These electric bikes were on display at: The Great Dorset Steam Fair in 2010. I can't remember any figures the guy on the stand was quoting now. So just posting these images up for interests sake really. However I'm sure I've heard in passing, (Since original post.) that; Kingston University had an electric bike do the Isle of Mann circuit? (If correct, I believe that it was doing well till it broke down!!!)
