Wanted to get the tank carbon. but guy said it would look bad as he would have to do the rank in two halfs because of the curve of the tank. so the join line would be right up the middle. so have went for the diy paint job.

It's a great idea and from a few "how to" videos I've seen, looks fairly straightforward and the material looks pretty forgiving.
Process looks like: solvent clean to remove polish and wax cut out material oversize remove backing paper and loosely lay in situ warm with heat gun and smooth / press into position Folder over edges and tidy up Trim off excess and flatten remaining bits into place
Result you achieved certainly looks good, are you pleased with it?

It is a lot harder than it sounds but that is basically the idea, McF It is not something that can be done straight from never doing anything like it before (I learnt from my boss, who had to go on a course to learn ), and definitely requires practice! It is a cast vinyl material, that is heated and stretched over the surface, and rubbed down so it basically forms a skin over the top of the surface. It has a 'memory' so when heated it will revert back to being completely flat, and becomes stretchy with the heat. At the end it is superheated to retain the shape it has been stretched into. The hard part is keeping creases and big bubbles out of it. Try putting a bit of cellotape or something round a corner and press it down and it will crease. Same thing applies with vinyl, but heating it and stretching it round corners keeps it from happening, but is VERY fiddly and sometimes quite frustrating to do, and of course there are limits to which the adhesive on the back can stretch, which makes going round corners and in recesses difficult, and requires some skill. Yep I'll be doing the rest of it next week hopefully, so will post step by step shots Groovylee, it's possible, but that'd be such big bucks, and avaraeside, there are some nutters out there who are insanely good and can do it all in one bit (I will be attempting with mine in one bit :S ), but generally, yes, there have to be joins in places. There is a certain limit to which the vinyl and adhesive will stretch! ALSO!!! I PASSED MY THEORY TODAY!! Have my module one next Sunday!!! Thanks for all the feedback guys, will continue to post pics next week!

I am now over half way there! Another 4-5 hours and I think I'll be done! Only half of the rear panel and tank to do now. Pictures to follow later!

That's the general idea haha... I need a blow torch in my life! My heat gun suddenly seems far too tame lol!

Like the results so far. Have to say your rear plastic looks better than mine before you started covering it.
Blow torch looks dramatic but I bet I could burn holes with it as well :-)
Thanks for posting pics.
