Well finally striped fully my seized Revere engine.
Some lovely high quality engineering inside that silver box.
What appears to have happened is one of the con rod bearings has been oil starved and run hot enough to almost melt / deform the shell. Because of the thickening on one side the other piston has had to compensate and has become lose. Basically the bike probably ran fine enough to get the guy home but when he came to start it once the engine had cooled around the piston, the next morning, no joy - seized.
I think with a new set of shells this engine could run again, maybe....
Trouble is don't want to spend too much on the shells.
I notice the shells have a code on them. I remember getting generic shells for a ford escort from a bearing company in Leyton (East London) back in the 90's. I wonder if they are still around ?
