They tend to be overpriced, being an 'adventure bike' Could make a fun project though and almost the same engine, apart from the chain

Yeah, I want to make my Revere capable of 'adventure' duties, or more like I dont want to buy another bike but want to do some mild offroading when I go touring...
The thing is, with these adventure bikes, is that relatively few people actually use them for adventure riding, and lots of them are just dressed up sports bikes, so adventure is more of a styling package than utility like that Ducati thing which is a great all rounder, but no dirt bike!!
I am partially toying with the idea of the twin disc front end from an XL650 transalp (plus larger front wheel, 21inch?) on the Revere, for better brakes (?) and more off road capability. But that would ruin the geometry of the bike. I love it as it is, and dont want to ruin it for the 98% of my riding to improve the 2% by a small margin! It's a street bike, and will handle dirt roads fine, and you can quite happily circumnavigate the globe with that capability so Im just going to upgrade it as a street bike, and maybe consider a spare set of dual sort tyres to help with dirt road riding but other than that, not to mess with it too much.
I DO however want that bashplate very much! Anyone know how they mount and if they mount to the ntv fairly simply?

If you want some more off-road capability, I would just try to find some tyres that a bit more suitable for mud & dirt. As for the Transalp: it has a reliable engine; but apart from that, it doesn't get my vote. If you want a bike that can take you off road once in a while, then I would go for the Suzuki V-strom 650: From a reliable source I've heard that these bikes are also virtually indestructible. The only problem they have occasionally is a broken water pump; which can be fixed cheap & easy. GvS

ooooh yes I have seen that JD revere, where I got the idea from! I think the bash plate looks awesome and it is actually genuinely useful! Is it just bolts that got through the spare engine mounts then? It's a good site with the build on, hadnt found that before. Pretty awesome garage space too!! And yeah, my plan for now is to have a spare set of wheels with more dual sport-ish tyres on, but Im lusting after owning one of these some day: www.alienhardt.de/en/bikes/ktm.htmlFor trips accross the desert and stuff.... Maybe, maybe, so many bikes I would like to own/build/ride but I have to be realistic. My revere is ideal for touring and you can see an awful lot of the world by road and gravel track so I think Ill stick to that.

I had not seen this site either before today, but like you had seen the bike. I have had it as my phone wallpaper for some time. Yes, the Garage did look a very cool spot to hang out and fix stuff / watch ebay for other stuff That much space could get expensive McF & I spent the day off road on some smaller KTM's a couple of years back and they were very easy to ride, I personally also found them very confidence inspiring. That said I have just read a review, on off road bikes in the MCN paper and the big KTM did not score that well for long distance comfort. As I think you have side on road off road its all a compromise. Hard core and get a KTM or small time, stand up for a few hours. Or upgrade the springs/seat and use the Revere, I have seen some interesting videos on you tube in as you say some interesting places on an NTV/Revere. Some many bikes, so little time

Yeah that all sounds spot on,
I did watch that MCN review of 'adventure' bikes and frankly, i thought i was pathetic. They took them on a road trip up to scotland, decided the Ducati was the best, despite admitting that it was the least suited to adventure riding out of all the bikes they tested. That Ducati is just a dressed up sports bike with no off road capability, so I thought that was a rubbish test, but then again, most people that buy these bikes will never take them offroading.
Im planning on upgrading the spring and seat. I really want to stick a good shock on the back with an easily accessible adjustment for both height and dampning. And the reality is, im not going to see challenging terrain for a while yet so it's no hurry, just need to get out and enjoy riding!
