Skyhook..................Nice one M8. Kind offer, that just proves what a great bunch of people we have on her. We may ride NTV's but there is more to us than that, proved by the positive posts you have all sent in and the offers to help.. Thanks to all of you, my view has changed.. Last friday it was a wreck..and now its a ProjectSo life has got a little bit sweeter. Will check out oilstone and see if i can use that to smooth out fork chrome, once i get it off. And re-chroming...mmhh, hopefully won't need it but who knows... I know we all use Ebay, but looking thru Gumtree I saw this, if it's any use to some one? jazz- I still can't find the link, but the product you could try for leaky forks is Wynn's Transmission Stop Leak. It's designed for auto transmissions. There are other similar products.
Before oil marketers cottoned on to the fact that they could charge suckers -er, bikers! an arm and a leg for minute quantities of fork oil the manufacturers used to specify ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) for forks, so fork oil is not much different. If you change your fork oil and add the recommended quantity of this stuff to it, it may solve the problem, temporarily at least. On the VX800 forum several owners used to use it as a matter of course, and found it made seals last much longer. (A VX800 issue).
It's worth a try. What have you got to lose? If you don't cure the leak, you were going to have to strip it anyway, and if you do cure it, you'll at least get through the MOT.
A large auto supermarket ought to stock it, otherwise you would have to order on the net.
Hope that helps!
Micawber.
