Since every NTV/Deauville I have ever owned has had trouble with the cooling system at some time, I am seriously thinking of investing in a cooling system tester. It seems no one can/or is willing to test a radiator cap pressure and I am fed up of guessing (wrongly!) what the problem is! Has anyone used one of these testers? Any advice on best buys etc would be extremely grateful. ;D Due to the cost of these testers I don't want to buy one and find it will not fit the bike due to restricted access

hi,
i never even new there were testers. I found when i had my ntv, Well with all my bikes. Yearly flushes of fresh water from a hose pipe into the filler cap with the drain plug out and engine running. Do this for a few mins. and then refilled with fresh coolant and i never had any problems.
Every other year take radiator off and backflush it so the larger particles that could be blocking it one way, were dislodged and sent out the other side.
Cant see the point of doing anything else.

Cheers Ed, it was not a problem with blockages but losing water has always been the issue. What you doing is fine to keep the blockages down but I was trying to determine whether it was hoses leaking, the filler cap faulty or a gasket leaking. Anyway glad I did not invest a near £200 in one of these tools as they don't really fit bikes!! I managed to borrow one from the local college, due to some recent work with a colleague and they nearly fit, just not enough to give a good test reading. So it's back to trial and error again. For now I have bypassed the system so the fan is on all the time, which is helping the situation.
