After a crash I wound up with bent headlight brackets, I straightened them out and installed the headlight back, but now I have a problem: the position light and taillight do not come on when I switch the headlights switch to first position.
When I switch it to the second position, the headlight comes on, but the taillight is still off.
However, when I turn the key to "steering lock with position lights on" position, the position lights and the taillight come on.
Also, the front brake switch does not turn on the braking light. The brake pedal switch does turn the braking light on.
I tried spraying WD40 into the handlebar light switch, and I've checked all the connectors inside the headlight casing, didn't help. Any ideas besides "yank the entire cabling and start anew"? :-)

Hi Leslie Sorry about your accident, hope you are ok. first things first....calm down and chill out. Its early in the morning so you can't do anything right now, right? except go to the fridge and make a Hot chocolate or a Martini (Your choice... ) This will appear on the radar tomorrow and those that know more than me can and will help. (first Aid for NTV's is what we do. A bandage for the bike and a few kind words for the owner) ;D Check in tomorrow and some advice will be given, might take a few goes but the members on here will help you out.

Hi Leslie, sorry to hear you had a prang, but presume you and aNTy are both OK. I think the shortest solution for you is the one you really don't want to consider! Assuming all was well before the prang and you now have a lighting problem. If the handlebar switches appear undamaged, it suggests that some of the wiring inside the headlight has come loose, especially as you've had the headlight off.
Get the front off the headlight, pull all of the wiring out and check every connection. If you have time, I'd suggest pulling apart every bullet connector (one by one), clean with some fine wire wool, a dab of vaseline and reconnect. It will take an hour or so, but I'm sure worth it.
Let us all know when you've been able to do this. Hopefully it will solve the problem, but if not, we'll have to try some diagnosis.

Sorry about the crash, I hope you are ok?
It sounds to me like an grounding problem. Maybe somewhere in the headlight a ground wire is not connected right? (or perhaps even in the switches)
The brakelight switch in your front brakelever might be broken, this would centainly cause it to stop working. (I'm trying to think, is it at all possible to reach the wires for it? if so, see what happens when you short them/unshort them, to test if it is the switch or the wires somewhere else)

I'm perfectly OK (I was wearing Akito Desert textile suit, the jacket is OK but the trousers were less fortunate), I'm just irritated by the lighting problem.
The brakelight switch is OK, I've tested it with a multimeter and it is connected when not pressed, when pressed the circuit is broken, so it's not the switch. I'll have to look if everything is properly grounded, but since the position lights do work when the ignition key is turned to "position lights" I think that might not be it.
Oh well, I have to do the valve clearances first, anyway. We had a few days of fine weather here in Poland and then snow came back again, so I can't really ride anyway. :-)

Sorry if this is too simple, but I had some random rear light issues and tried lots of things only to find it had a dedicated fuse which had blow.
Good to hear you are ok. Hope you get her going again soon.
Roger.
