Today I replaced the front axle brake pads. Now, that's not a very spectacular job to do, so why post this on the forum? Well because I discovered that the fixation of my front axle had become loose. All 4 bolt on the photo's below had begun to unscrew: The last time these bolt had been undone was while changing the front tyre. And that was nearly a year and 4000 km ago ! The message here is: check your bike regularly. I thought I did, but I clearly didn't do a proper check-over. I'll be more thorough next time. GvS

Can i please be the first to thank you for stating the absolute bloody obvious. Anyone who does not check these bolts regulary along with brake caliper bolts and engine mountings, To be frank should not be rideing a bike. Mine get checked weekly/ fortnightly at the latest.
This is basic maintenance that if you ask me should be part of all riding tests.

Can i please be the first to thank you for stating the absolute bloody obvious. There's no need to thank me. I'm very good at stating the bloody obvious ;D My memory, however, is not so very good: I had forgotten that the oil seals in the front stanchions had been replaced recently. That was about a month ago. I have a feeling that the firm that did this, didn't use the correct torque to re-tighten these bolts......... GvS

Hi All,
During the restoration of my Revi, i have seen it these bolts on the fork bottom are quite short, in fact originals are 8x45mm and with this length screw even be fixed at recommended torque keeps a gap at the end of screw hole.
I have installed Allen keys 8x50mm and the screw length keeps on the edge of the fork at the end of the screw hole.
I think is something to hace in mind to avoid screw undone.
Add some screw locker (loctite 211) at screw end can also help
Regards
Antonio
