YES, YES, YES !!!!
I’ve finally done it: I’ve bought the right lottery ticket !
Which means that, very soon, I will have a sufficient amount of money to buy some nice things.
I’m not going to tell you how much it is. But I can tell you it’s enough to buy my wife a decent car, make some alterations to our house (get that bathroom sorted out al last) and BUY ME A BRAND NEW MOTORBIKE. Even then there’s some left ;D.
Now I’m enlisting your help to decide which bike I should buy.
There’s only one real important factor for me: it must have an ABS brake system.
The candidates are:
No.1. The Suzuki V-strom 650:
I would buy the “touring” version, which comes with a centre stand, hand guards & top case.
And I would buy it in white. I don’t know why, but I like bikes in white colour.
Evaluation:
On the positive side
• Very good riding position & seat
• Large fuel tank (long range)
• Fuel efficient
• Relatively cheap (Catalogue price: ± € 8900,=)
• Lots of aftermarket stuff available (a set of aluminium pannier costs ± € 825,=)
On the negative side
• Chain drive
Second on my list is the successor to my current bike, the Honda NT700V:
Evaluation:
On the positive side
• Shaft drive
• Honda’s reliabilty
• Combined ABS brake system
• Variable windscreen height (very good wind protection)
• Intergrated panniers
On the negative side
• Lots of plastic
• Soft seat (less comfortable on long trips)
• A bit more expensive (Catalogue price: ± € 11.500,=), but I wouldn’t have to buy panniers.
• The white colour only appears to be available in South Africa.
Third on my list is the brand new Triumph Tiger 800 :
(I would go for the street version)
Evaluation:
On the positive side
• Very good reviews in magazine's
On the negative side
• I've only seen it on photo's yet
• Chain drive
• It's not always a good idea to buy a product that just come out on the market; let other people find out the design faults.
Then there is the ugly BMW F800GS:
I suppose I just don’t like the looks of this bike…………….
OK…….
The first paragraph of this post is a complete lie.
I still haven’t won anything. But it’s nice to think about it, isn’t it ?
Please post your ideas about which bike you would buy if money didn’t matter.

PS
With the NT700V , I also have a (sort of social) problem: Our regular cleaning lady at work rides one of these !
Now I have to admit that this is a very special cleaning lady: she in her early fifties and has recently passed her motorbike driving test. She then bought a 2006 NT700V (with ABS).
She also does things like horse riding, scuba diving and has walked the entire length of Hadrians wall.
But the question is: do I really want to have the same bike as the cleaning lady ?
But since I don’t have the money to buy one, the question is not relevant.
