Hi All Finally getting my NTV ready for the roads, a few bodge jobs along the way but hey ho its only a winter hack. I have noticed I have a leak, an oil leak i presume. My photo points where its leaking from. Valve cover the Haynes manual says. Anyway looking on wemoto i see you can buy new valve cover gaskets. Firstly leaking from these 2 areas does it indicate anything bad? To solve the leak would it be as simple as replacing these 2 valve cover gaskets? Your advice and opinions as always will be much appreciated Thanks ps sorry cant work out how to put a picture on. please follow my link to another ntv forum which has the picture thanks ** edit by Buzzin: sorted out the image for you **Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I don't think there should be too much to worry about, mine leaked a bit and after a replacement seal nothing is wrong

The Rocker Cover seals do leak after a time. Replacements aren't especially cheap, but they will cover the problem - unless a previous owner has resorted to heavy handedness when putting the covers back on.
I'm afraid it's tank (seat and side covers off first) removed, then air filter, then easy access to the two bolts holding down each rocker cover.
When you have the covers off, clean off any residual oil from the mating surfaces, put the new seal in place on the rocker cover with a trace of new engine oil, then put in place (take a little care as it will try to flop down) and replace the bolts, be careful tightening, then replace filter, tank, side panels, seat and start up.
My first aNTy had been bodged a bit, a previous owner had tried using instant gasket and it caused a lot of mess inside the rocker cover. I would not recommend this solution; it's well worth the £20 or so for new gaskets.
While you have the air filter off, remove the bolts holding the body together and check the filter, apply some "Coppaslip" to the bolts when reassembling. Remove and check the plugs, regap or replace as appropriate Also worth checking the valve clearances and confirm that the cam chain is within limits. If you have been thinking of draining and replacing the coolant, it's a good time to do that too while tank etc is removed.

Hi, my rocker cover on the front has leaked all year, will get round to replacing the rubber gasket soon. dont bother with pattern parts from wemoto, use honda ones, they are dearer but much better quality, do the job better and will last a lot longer, I have used pattern parts and end up doing the job again after a very short time with proper honda parts.
