Back from a few days away in my caravan by the Kennet & Avon Canal. (If only Clarkson could drive he would love caravans ) The weather was good so I thought a couple of pics may be of interest. I am starting to get fed up fighting the cars etc on the road but this is a very civilised way to cycle. I even spotted a nice house or two, I wish The 29 Cean Hill locks in the flight just west of Devizes was worth the ride.

Sounds like a good holiday (although I'm with Clarkson on Caravans) As RJ knows, I also spent quite a lot of time during my hols in Canada exploring canals - sounds sad (and probably is). Here is our dream house and the flight of (only 8) locks on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa I worked in Wiltshire for several years and know the Kennet and Avon quite well. It's excellent cycling (pedal bike too!) country. The locks at Caen Hill pictured by RJ are well worth a visit; they are a lasting memory of a bygone age.

That flight in Canada looks electric, Caen are still mechanical and take up to 5 hours to pass through.
I spoke to one boat owner who had travelled all the way down from Leeds, having left Leeds in April!
Some of the double width barges were very nice.

That flight in Canada looks electric No - all of these are still manual, mainly using the same components from 1826 - 32 (when the canal was built).
