Good vidoe, but I always leave the side stand down when putting any bike on the centre stand ,as if it does go wrong you can still go forward again, covering the front brake, and the side stand means you are less likely to have the whole of the weight on you if you are unbalanced.

Hi franklin, just spotted this thread again, great news I guess in that we have so many threads on the go I can't keep track. ;D Re your leg, I am not a medic and cant see it from here. But. The technique is to hop up onto the centre stand pedal and use you body weight and a straighter leg, rather than leg strength. As Buzz says I did learn this on my test and was glad to as I used to have problems putting my 125 on its centre stand! Good luck R

As everyone seems to agree, the technique is about using your body weight, plus leg muscle.
As the video also says, it is really important to ensure that both feet of the centre stand are on the ground before starting the manouvre.
In the video, it clearly shows left leg leaving the ground, which therefore puts all riders weight on centre stand. I usually keep my right arm straight and press down with my right leg. My left hand does little more than keep my balance and the bars straight.

Having done this recently to two of my NTVs to grease the stand pivot, I can confirm you have to, put it on its center stand remove the back wheel remove the exhaust put the wheel back on put it on its side stand remove the center stand prop it upright (I used a car jack and couple of axle stands) take the back wheel back off put the exhaust back on refit the back wheel.
Did I miss anything?
I've bought some mild steel nuts and some stainless steel grease nipples. Plan to drill a hole in the middle of the pivot tube, weld a nut to it and fit a grease nipple so I never have to take the dam things off again. Plan to try and do the same thing to the side stand, brake and shift pedal.
Richard.

I attempted to remove the centre stand this morning. After a few hours of swearing and shouting at the bike it still refused to budge! I did everything I should have as stated in the haynes manual and from various threads from this forum but to no avail. The pivot shaft seems to be rusted to the stand.

Hi paulie73, I had the exact same problem with my centre stand, the pin was rusted solid into the stand. The clamps at each end of the pin were worn so badly they wouldn't lock on the pin. I ended up having to hacksaw through the pin at each end and then use copious amounts of heat and WD 40 to drive the pin out. I had to make a new pin obviously, fortunately I have a lathe so it was no big deal. I fitted a grease nipple as GVS had done.
All the best Willie

I did try the search facility but it doesn`t recognise `centre stand` so I`ll ask on this generic centre stand thread: Can any of you tell me what size bolts, diameter and length I`ll need for the fitment of my second hand centre stand on my NTV, I`m referring to the bolts that go through the frame and `pinch` the centre stand tube? Obviously I`m planning on using stainless fasteners tucked up under there where the ravages of road grime, salt and grit play merry hell on components.

Tucked up there where they are the extra 10mm will be easily hidden anyway.
