Hi all, I am new here as I just bought my NTV 650 last week (and love her already ). I've got a question. - With an cold engine, I open the choke and run the starter. - The startermotor turns but the engine doesn't pick up. - I keep running the starter (for a few seconds), then close the choke. Then she starts up and I open the throttle, again open the choke so the engine won't die if i let go of the throttle. - When the engine is warm, sometimes she fails to start at a first go and I can hear a "click click click" sound from the startermotor...... Apperently the battery is good (checked in the shop), anything I miss out on here?? Let me know, greetings from Holland, Maarten ;D

Welkom Maarten! Once the engine is warm, does it run smoothly? How are the sparkplugs? On starting it is possible to choke it too much (well, on my bike anyway) does halving the choke help any? ps. it's the Netherlands....not Holland, we are very strict about that here Groet, Bas

For those of you who don't understand this language: translate.google.nl/#

Hi Onsplekkie, pleased to hear you like your aNTy, but it's a shame you're having some problems already.
It's worth knowing the current situation with your bike.
How many Km has she done?
When was she last serviced?
Unless you know for certain that she has recently had a good service, it is worth an afternoon treating her to some new parts and attention.
Condition of the Air Filter, also make sure the gauze oil filter for crankcase breather is clean and remove the plug from the breather pipe (cluster of breather pipes under the engine, just in front of the centre stand - one of them has a plug in it. Remove the plug and see if anything (oily water usually) drains out
Spark Plugs, check condition and gap
Fuel Filter - there are two. One obvious one just before the fuel pump (Left Side behind the side panel) and a mesh filter on the fuel tap. If your fuel level is low, you can drain the tank into a suitable container, then remove the fuel tap. There is a copper mesh on the top of the mechanism that does get blocked with fine silt. The inline one next to the fuel pump has to be replaced. I would suggest every 80,000 Km
Oil and Filter Change too
Good luck and do let us know how you get on
PS - Pictures of your aNTy always bring good luck

THX all for your reply,
I've bought her (the NTV) with 18.000 (genuine) KM on the clock. She is red as a fire engine and has some panels put on her. Not very nice looking, but it keeps me out cold weather here in winter.
My former bike, an Africa Twin, was looking into some serious work on clutch housing, fork rebuilding and cylinder work, which I can't do myself, and the shop asked some 1300euros to fix. So I'shopped around on Marktplaats (Dutch Ebay) and found this baby. The same smooth engine as the AT (650 instead of 750), but "Ooh" how beautifully she handles! (all this for some 1900 euros!) With top and side case, original Honda!
I will sell my AT as I rarely drive in my spare time (commuter only at this moment). She did a brave job of caring me and my wife as a pillion over some 50.000km, 2,5 year journey overland from Holland through Europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Tibet, Nepal, Thailand, Laos and Malaysia (shipped her back to Europe). An amazing trip through barren landscapes and beautiful cultures!
This week I've done some work on the NTV. I've changed engine oil and filter, shaft oil, checked spark plugs and charged the battery. Now she starts on one go, and run smooth with a cold or warm engine! I've had a decent drive with her this week to a conference some 100km drive from my house. Much of it highway (160 km/h on some parts) on which she really handled well (much better then the AT).
So, I am happy at the moment and hopefully I will find a secondhand Haynes book soon so I can do more work on her!
Greetings from Holland (NL ;D) Maarten
PS. will add some pictures soon

Greetings from Holland (NL ;D) Maarten Have a good look at my site and you'll find a shortcut to an on-line version of the Haynes manual. Because you are probably in the "Holland-part" of the Netherlands (the Hague-region ?), you're forgiven this time But please remember we're very strict about this Holland / Netherlands stuff ;D De Graaf van Salland
