Hi People,
Starting the 650 was not a problem but a few nights ago starting the bike.. went to open the throttle and it just died. now it turns over but has got slower and slower... and now the relay just clicks. battery is full but boosted with a charger anyway .. still just clicks.....
I think it's either the battery, starter motor or starter solanoid..
Any other ideas ??

Main earth strap OK? Master fuse (the 30A jobby under the side panel) nicely seated and not corroded?

That sounds like insufficient power in the battery. How old is the battery? Can you swap it with another bike and see if there is a difference - with your bike and "new battery" in and the other bike with your battery in. What about a battery booster or jump start? It might be worth checking the quality of contact on the main wires and battery terminals, but I do think it is the battery itself. A shame we no longer have kick starts

Battery charger is showing that the battery is at full power, normally on my battery charger the 4 lights start going out when the battery is drained ( normally happened during engine cranking on my old kit car) but all lights stay on..... also lights and indicators still run at the same rate.... i am going to try another battery anyway...
did check the starter fuse, all o.k. ( first thing i did actually )
Kick starter... now there's a thought, would love to have one of those as well... still have to kick start my Honda cr500 ... now that really hurts you foot when it kicks back !!!

Batteries can be funny things (and don't let me have you think I'm any sort of expert on electrickery). Enough power to illuminate the lights doesn't always mean enough to turn the engine over. Try removing a plug from each cylinder and turning the engine over. Without compression to work against it may make a difference. I suppose you could look at the brushes and Armature in the Starter Motor if you have the desire. Should be achieveable in 2 - 3 hours (allowing time for photos to post on the forum and several cups of tea!) Brush Length at new = 12.5mm, replace at 6.5mm It is recommended that you replace the O rings on reassembly Hope you find the problem soon

Battery charger is showing that the battery is at full power If the battery has 'died' then it will do that. Normally the amount of light (LED's) that light up on a battery charger is an indication for the amount of current (Amps) going through the battery. If a good battery is full, there will be a small current i.e. almost all lights are out. But a broken battery has such a high internal resistance that there will also be a small current (or no current at all). So it will appear to be full. How old is your battery ? Normal live-expectancy for a battery would be between 4 & 8 years I would guess. GvS
